Good Jobs?

Alright, well sales have been waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down recently, much farther then I had expected. Im looking into getting a 2nd job. I need something thats gunna be pretty flexable with hours, and offer good pay. I already work 40 hrs a week, sometimes more, sometimes less, but Im looking around for something to do. Anyone have any ideas?
Real ideas too. Ill leave drug sales and sexual services out till I run out of ideas.

ShitOnWheels 01-27-2006 06:39 AM

Just a few ideas.

Restaurant. Waiter/Bartender Bus boy. Waiter will make the most money, you could work 1 day a week and, depending on the place, make a decent amount in tips.

Substitue teacher. You have 60 credits yet? Go get sub certified and sub on your days off. You tell the districts/county/state when you're available, and if they call you, you can decline to work that day. I forget what the actual rate is, but something like $80 a day depending on district.

lowes is starting to hire for spring. they pay good and most managers are pretty good about people who have other jobs/school/whatever else to deal with.
pay is typical retail + commission for sales positions. you can make serious dough in appliances and flooring with very little effort.'

any local bars by you that could use someone at night?

BigAls87Z28 01-27-2006 01:37 PM

I cannot do sales for Lowes or others cause of my current job with Sears.
I might work frieght at Home Depot. Work 9pm to 2am (since Im up anyway) and make about 10 bucks an hour.

great idea, be a bar-back and make a good amount each night.

qwikz28 01-27-2006 01:45 PM

i cant verify this but i hear Verizon pays VERY well to their sales and even more so for their techs. you're already ahead of the game since you know how to use a screwdriver unlike the people currently working there.

and also a friend of a friend works at the one in west long branch which from what i understand isnt too far from you. i can ask if they are hiring from you if your interested

verizon techs don't do anything techie anyhow, they just replace phones. i think the most technically skilled job they do is replace antennas.. :rollseye:

Verizon sales is a full time job and pays way more than you think.

my girl works at the one up north. she makes well over $50,000 a year

Food service isn't as easy as everyone is making it out to be. The pay can be very good, but it's not steady, just hit or miss.

Can try Uhaul they look for moonlighters ( peopel who have full time job and need a 2nd) to do Customer Service or Hitch installs.... can probably start out around $9 - $10 if you talk to the manager.

BigAls87Z28 01-27-2006 08:36 PM

Nah, couldnt do food services.
Im deffinalty looking into the overnight freight deal at either Lowes or HD. I hear Lowes pays more, about 12+ an hour. Not bad for abotu 5 hrs of work, just money so that I can have fun. Id only do this till sales kept up, or I could still do both.

Frosty 01-27-2006 10:56 PM

$10/hr? Why freaking bother.

Try doing a bar/club gig if you know how to make drinks. Sure the hours can suck but you make good, quick money and most of it is under the table. :)

BigAls87Z28 01-27-2006 11:01 PM

I dont need a NEW job, I need a 2nd job. I just need BS money till sales start to pick up.

Frosty 01-27-2006 11:09 PM

I know, I read your first post.

My point is why settle for some BS $10/hr a job. If you're a night type of guy look into a bar or something. You'd make a few quick bucks at the right place...plus you wouldn't really be busting your ass like you would be like moving freight.

Just making suggestions that's all :)

turbo96z28 01-27-2006 11:17 PM

i gotta agree with the bar thing. a few of my friends used to do it and made some great spending money.

BigAls87Z28 01-27-2006 11:20 PM

My friends do it, and jersey shore bars, you bust MAJOR ass!!
Id rather move some fidges around with a fork lift then haul cases of ****** beer all night.
And they do get paid well, but they ususaly hire a small band of mexians that do twice the load for 1/3 of the pay.

turbo96z28 01-27-2006 11:31 PM

i was thinking more behind the counter tending. it's really not that hard to mix drinks.

or you could be a tow truck driver at night :D

my shop tows, and whenever i need extra cash i just work a few nights.
