R.I.P.-B&L Billiards
so me, Cheryl (my girl), her best friend, and her boyfriend tried to go bowling tonight and every place was packed.
i said, lets go to Elite billiards, formerly B&L, on route 1 by the old Ford plant in edison anyone who was ever there knows what the place was like. little short dude behind the counter. everything from 80s rock to rap in the jukebox. nice comfortable feel to the place. there is now a huge cage in the middle of the room for a ping pong table. there are mirrors all over the wall. there is a couch and love seat by the counter. now i know this sounds cool to some, but those that knew B&L know how heartbreaking it really is to hear it turned into a teenie bopper pool joint. i won't have a problem going there, but it's just the initial shock of seeing it so different that got to me. just sucks that so many things that i've known since i was a kid are either getting torn down or turned into some cartoon version of what it used to be. remember Bradlees, Caldors, Rickels, Kiddie City????? anyone else knwo what i'm talking about? |

Kiddie City was a toy store like toys r us.
there mascot was a kangaroo, and his catch phrase was "turn that frown, upside down!" people from the edison area will know it very well. |
Yep, there used to be a big ass Caldors right on 66 by my house. Now its Marshals or something.
|
anyone remember service mechandise( i think thats the place...but now im not so sure), like a catalog store. you find what you want, then go to the counter and theyll get it for you...

DAYUM, I'M OLD! I remember all the places ya speak of! I really miss Woolworths...there was one in downtown Somerville, and they had model car contests when I was a teenager. A friend of mine and myself used to try and outdo each other to win the gold. And he honestly did beat me a couple of times. :)
