swapping the v6 for a 350 out of a 76 camaro dont know if i should go with carb or tpi any other advice would help
|
well what are you looking for out of the motor
|
engine
i am looking for speed but also an evry day driver for the summer
|
You can go either way for power... but for a daily driver... your best bet will be fuel injection... at least Tuned Port... Trust me... Carbs can get rather annoying and expensive very fast

The only reason why i say that is because i've been through 6 carbs already and still haven't gotten one that was worth using and that doesn't blow up on me.. |
you're using a 350 that came from a 76 camaro in the hopes of going fast? they came stock with 165 hp.
But, it is a good foundation to build off. I say carb it, it will save you money and if it goes bad, you can rebuild it. you'd spend a lot of time tuning a fuel injection setup and it might get you in over your head. carbs are simple and easy to make power with. |
what Ian said, but if your going for fuel injection might i suggest TBI? :)

to do a TPI setup, itll probably run you around 1000 for everything. I did a tpi swap into a 87 monte and I dealt with piecing the setup together, custom harness and custom chip.
a decent carb would be about 350 and figure on buying a good intake manifold. Theres also TBI which gives you the benifit of fuel injection without the full hassle and cost of TPI. You can get a complete TBI setup for under 500 easily. TPI is really a novelty, alot for the look for most people. I was going to do TBI in my iroc but i decided to keep the electronic quadrajet sinc eim not going for performance and it works fine now anyways. oh, also, what car is it going into? did that car ever come factory with tpi? that would make it a lot easier if so. |
a performer rpm manifold ( edelbrock ) is the best money can buy will work on a no power 305 or any Size SBC motor up to 465 HP and will give good fuel ecom driving on the street as well as great footbrake racing starts the same in a carb for a pump gas low proformance street driving the edel carb is a keeper 650 is the biggest you will ever need bigger will only use more fuel and wash out cylinder walls so in 10,000 miles it will than start to smoak the holley is a racing type carb bad fuel ecom and their always seems to be something amiss with them their are cars in stock eliminator using the original design ( carter AFB ) with 4000 lb cars going in the 11s keep it simple just use a good after market fuel filter and it wil never give you problems

It is going into an 88 camaro it had a 2.8 mpfi in it junk

Excuse my wording... I just happened to run into couple of really garbage carbs which I thought where worth keeping... Appearantly not due to age, needing a rebuild, and the fact that they all had been sittin... And btw, I'm new to the old school modified style... Carbs weren't part of MPFI or TPI systems, so I am still learning |
