yeah I have one, but for under 200 bucks and all that work to install it, id rather have one that will give me more performance gains you know? 8) Does any one know what the BEST cam for performance I can possibly use on my lg4?

project89 03-30-2006 10:19 PM

is it computer controlled carb? or did u throw out that pos and get a real carb?

WayFast84 03-30-2006 10:24 PM

Im going to get a real carb, dont know what yet...like I said in the buddylist, Im gonna return my nitrous, I dont need it..Im also going to exchange my manifold.

project89 03-30-2006 10:30 PM

what manifold u got now, go with an eldelbrock rpm performer airgap or a torker 2, with a holley street avenger carb, u cant pick out a cam until u know what the rest of ur setup is gonna be, the cam is the last thing u should get
u can have a god setup with a **** cam and it will still run strong,or u can have a mismatched/bad setup with the best cam, and it will still be a dog

78camaro 03-30-2006 10:32 PM

this is just my advice what ever you buy now, think in advance a little like maybe when you build your 350 you can swap the parts over, ya know,

WayFast84 03-30-2006 10:38 PM

I have a wiand action plus manifold right now, what cam would be best with that? or should I just return everything and get a brand new set up?

project89 03-30-2006 10:47 PM

well what are u looking to get out of the motor, what do u what to spend,is this gonan be a daily driver, first and formost id start with a 350 and build a strong bottom end, this way u have a solid foundation to start on(4 bolt block .030 over, scat crank/rods flattop pistions) then u could run some stocker heads and get a manifold, headers, carb and save up for a nice set of heads, hell summit sellf complete brand new vortec or brand new reg heads (based on duble hump heads) for 650$'s,or u could get a zz4 top end kit, trick flow also makes some nice top end kits heads, cam, rockers, intake pretty cheap there biggest kit makes 500 something hp on a 383 for 1,700$

Lethal: Wayfast is only 14 and has no job, so this is classified under a budget buildup. Him building a 350 is realistically out of the question right now, as he's just starting to learn how to dis-assemble an engine.

Matt: The Weiand Action Plus is pretty much the same thing as a performer intake. If you aren't changing heads anytime soon, that is a good manifold to keep. I would get a slightly more agressive cam, something like a an XE256H or XE262H from Comp Cams. They are part of their Xtreme Energy line, good cams (I have the XE274H).

I will eventually, when the 305 goes boom. lol, right now I dont want to have a motor built cause it WONT be my daily driver when I get a liscence, just when I have my permit and maybe untill winter when I will need fuel injection:rofl: when I will pick up a 4th gen, plus If I had a motor built it would be like a 6 grand motor with a magna charger so really like 8 grand

near the bottom of the SBC cams,
Energizer Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft & Lifter Kit
Lift: .467''/.467''
Duration: 278°/278°
RPM Range: 2400-5400
Thats what some one also recomended me.

Tru2Chevy 04-03-2006 10:31 AM

Yes, the XE262 cam would work fine on any mild 305.

Personally I would opt for the XE cam over the energizer, but that's a choice you'll have to make. Either one should be ok with a stock converter, but it never hurts to have one.

stay carb, cuz when u go tpi u either gotta learn to burn chips(not to mention upgrade the fuel system) or pay $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for some1 else to do it

rgaynor85 04-12-2006 09:52 AM

i had the xe262 in my 350 in my old monte carlo ss it doesnt have a real choppy idle at all when i got it i was dispointed, its an alright cam but ehh not what i wanted. i still cant believe a 14 year old kid is hookin up his car and cant even drive it. stay carb, tpi is a bitch to hook up its exspensive to begin with and takes alot to make run right after u do stuff to the motor

The cam will act bigger in a smaller displacement motor. I have the XE 274 in my 400 and a friend of mine put the same cam in his 350. Idle on both cars is pretty different.
