Window etching

Anyone know where I can get it done?? How much it'll run me?? Apparently I would need a warning label as well... this is for a 15% insurance discount. Thanks.

Never heard of a company that checked you had it done..you got full coverage..or at least theft on the car??

Im not sure where to get it done by my TA has it..was on it when i bought it

Tsar 04-07-2006 08:29 PM

wtf is it?

Savage_Messiah 04-07-2006 08:32 PM

They etch your VIN into all of the car's glass, it's a theft deterrent.

I just have liability, but I'd still get the discount.

Yea ud be amazed at what u can do to save on insurance. I saved alot of money on my full coverage for having the etching done, and for having daytime running lights  . Any Chevy dealership can do it IIRC

V 04-08-2006 12:19 AM

yeah GMC did the etching on my denali, and i had it done when i bought my SS as well.

Tsar 04-08-2006 12:54 AM

we do that stuff at my work, i can ask how much it is if you want.

Little G 04-08-2006 04:48 AM

Check with your insurance company, because mine wouldn't give me an extra discount because we have PASS-KEY and they were already giving a discount for that.

Ha, I used to get a discount for that on my civic. The dealer etched the vin and tried to sell it to me for $150. I said I wouldn't pay. They said I had to, it was already there (they did it on every car). I said 1) drop the cost, 2) change the windows, or 3) watch me leave. They picked #1. But I wouldn't be signed up with the company that does it, so i was not eligible for the $500 if my car was stolen.

But I still got the insurance discount. It is considered a deterrent to the insurance company. So over the 8 or so years I had it, I came close to the 500 in savings. :)

Savage_Messiah 04-08-2006 12:10 PM

Tsar if you can check that'd be cool

Craig I don't currently have any discounts on my car for any security system so I think it'd count. Or maybe they don't realize it has PASS-KEY / VATS... phone call is in order

Tsar 04-08-2006 12:15 PM

ill ask on monday

maroman88 04-08-2006 12:42 PM

LOL dealerships and window etching is funny stuff, they try and charge for it on used cars that already are etched from when new, the tried to do my GF's maxima and her dad said the deal was off and my aunt even called her insurance company and they said it wouldnt lower her insurance at all and she had the dealership rewrite the bill without that extra 150$, and its already on the explorer

Savage_Messiah 04-08-2006 12:44 PM

I already check with the insurance company... window etching in NJ = 15& discount

Never heard of such requirement.......must be a NJ thang:smile:

Ian 04-24-2006 10:13 PM

its not a requirement, its just considered a theft deterrant (sp?).

Kojak 04-24-2006 10:36 PM

I'll have to see if my insurance has that discount. Cool stuff. Looked at that site. Seems easy enough.
