:| I wish I had known about this last summer.

Heh...seems that some people really believe that works. Anyone else ever heard of something like this?

For those that don't want to read through the whole thing, the idea is that some guy painted this car with a high density foam roller and the equivalent of Rustoleum. 8 coats, with wetsanding between every other coat. Then he just finished it up with polishing compound.

It doesnt look bad, but it would look a LOT better if it was sprayed in a booth as opposed to "rolled" in someones driveway

Tsar 04-26-2006 09:35 PM

wow someone painted their car with a roller?

bad64chevelle 04-27-2006 12:56 PM

holy hell that doesnt seem bad at all if that is how they did it.

*edit*
nevermind I take that back I saw a pic of the side of the car and its really bad. such a waste of a good car. If he took the time to put nice chrome and stuff on it why waste the body of the car?

Heh - good from far, but far from good.

Doesn't look like he spend much time getting the body straight either.

My grandfather did that to his 64 corvair years ago... and must I say he did a real wicked job! The paint still shines

When I was like 10 y/o, my next door neighbor painted her 71 mustang with a roller and brush.....she even used LAYTEX! It was a nice shade of beige..hehe.

rgaynor85 04-27-2006 02:42 PM

hmm im intrigued i wanna try it on a beater lol

Teds89IROC 04-27-2006 02:43 PM

The only roller paint job I did was primer at the body shop. It was actually a new method the suppliers were pushing to avoid the loss cost of overspray and mixing too much etc. We didn't like it for big jobs though, it didn't adhere the same as spraying. but for little work it was nice. Also saved masking material and the time for prep as well.

for a beater.. yea ok

for a nice car... no, hell no

WayFast84 05-01-2006 07:28 PM

well, a guy from another site, said he saw the guys car and the guy in person at a mopar meet and he said it looked awsome in person.

Tru2Chevy 05-01-2006 07:38 PM

From some angles (like the one in the picture I posted) the car looks really good, but in others you can see that there is a lower gloss than with traditional painting, and there is also lots of orange peel.

I dont know what kind of paint he used because I didnt read it, but if its the kind of paint I think it is, its gonna be hard to knock down that orange peel.

Savage_Messiah 05-02-2006 01:44 AM

look at the license plate... he's from canada... that explains it all.

Tru2Chevy 05-02-2006 10:20 AM

He used something similar to Rustoleum, called Tremclad. I guess it's Canadian....

Once my car actually runs, I'll be looking for a paint job. If anyone wants to try the roller theory on mine, I can volunteer it. Can't get any worse than it is now.

ZeroCool8891 05-06-2006 05:03 AM

yea i gunna try that roller but i would love to try it actully i dont it once to a bus but just a coat or white rustloim looked really good
