Winter driving

I kind of miss having a hot rod as a daily driver. Actually, alot. Back when my TA was my DD, I was always looking forward to driving to work in the morning, and at the end of the day. Now it's boring. I like my Jeep, but I'm not really into 4 wheeling or anything. I've thought about trading it in on a Lighting, and doing a few mods to it  But I've never even seen snow that was deep enough to ski in. Would I regret it come winter, or do you all get around fine in a rwd when it snows?

Brando56894 05-09-2006 04:56 PM

depending on the area you live in having a RWD car isnt that much of a problem. usually theyre pretty good at plowing and salting the roads here if you live in a decent sized town. i drive my bird alot during the winter but then again i live in a decent sized town. but then again 4WD kicks ass compared to RWD when it comes to snow

I would advise against a modded lightning for winter driving. Any other time though, modded lightning FTW!

Rich189 05-09-2006 05:40 PM

4wd ftw.... but i only really used it cuz i work nights and when i get out at 7am normally some of the roads arent plowed ect... i dont think a lightning would be good for winter at all as i drive a 2dr tahoe so theres actually some weight in the rear.... maybe get something awd like a trail blazer ss or silverado ss

Ian 05-09-2006 06:40 PM

or an SRT-8 Grand Cherokee ( unless you ever want to tow with it, then dont even think about the SRT-8 )

Brando56894 05-09-2006 07:56 PM

they make an srt8 cherokee???

Mike 05-09-2006 08:00 PM

trailblazer ss ftw

420 hp/tq
AWD

it moves pretty good! but the TBSS is WAY more functional.

Rich189 05-10-2006 01:58 AM

im all for the tbss as well... i figured id throw the silvy ss in there just cuz he was looking at the lightning

11 Bravo 05-10-2006 05:18 AM

I do like the trailblazer ss. But I wasn't looking to really spend that much. I guess after I get settled in I'll go over my finances and play with the numbers. Still wondering how much my insurance is going to go up.

Syclone?

BigAls87Z28 05-10-2006 10:25 AM

you cant tow jack with the sy/ty's either. I think with the Sy you can tow 1k lbs.

Maxx SS? You know you want it. Electric Blue Metalic...big polished 18's....240hp 3.9 VVT V6....leather sport seating....rear DVD entertainment system...its all good.

Yeah, that's another thing. My Jeep can't tow ****. I'm already gonna have to fly back to N.C. to get my TA and drive it up after I move. That seriously sucks. Another possibility is getting a 5.3 Silverado 4x4, and dropping in a 402. Hell, I have so many extra parts about all I would need to buy is the shortblock, headers and fuel system.

Sounds like a good plan then :)

my saturn supposedly can tow 3500. i did 2 full size ATVs on a 1000 pound trailer up a pretty damn steep hill with barely any effort. excess power only equals wasted gas.

Rich189 05-10-2006 05:42 PM

hmm how about like a silvy 3500 turbo diesel ext cab :} depending on finances either used or new.... then no need to worry bout power 130hp with the flip of a switch

Haha, I don't need a main battle tank. I actually hate those huge ass trucks everyone has nowadays. I laugh when I see guys try to parallel park them.

Ian 05-10-2006 07:09 PM

depending on your budget, try looking for a used grand cherokee. you'd be able to tow with it and it wouldnt be a huge tank-mobile

turbo96z28 05-10-2006 07:22 PM

4WD FTW!

mind you, this is an old pic, it's grown a bit since then.

Ian 05-10-2006 07:34 PM

there is a guy who has a 2004 Grand Cherokee "freedom edition" that comes into my work sometimes. its got a 4.7 HO V8. He's got a piggyback chip in there and man that thing hauls ass.

qwikz28 05-10-2006 08:08 PM
