It lives again...back in an F-body

Finally i have driven my own F-body again...

...but sorry to say its not my SS. but it'll do. Today i finally got around to uncovering and starting my 85 IROC-Z which has been parked since september. It needed a jump obviously, and it didnt want to start at first but it finally came around. I registered and insured it about a month ago so i took it out around town for a little spin. It has a few issues that i now remember from last summer, but overall it was a great experience this afternoon. lol. Here are some pictures...

congrats!

is it really an L69?

V 05-10-2006 05:42 PM

i dont know, i doubt it, i think the engine RPO was only LG4, but the car is very much stock, other than a catback and lowering springs. i'll have to check under it and see the front flange of the cat, if its a slip fit, its lg4, 4 bolt flange is a L69. I installed the different lights all around. I dont know why anyone would put a dual snorkel on it if it wasnt though, but who knows. The car has 186k miles on it and the body is wasted. I'll be swapping most of the parts to the 89 iroc shell and at that time, dropping in a '89 305 i have.

I see you have the common working hood strut delete option.

What was the RPO code for it again?

;):D

Just check the VIN for the engine. If the 8th digit is an H, then it's an LG4. I don't remember what digit they used for the L69 though.... I wanna say G, but not sure.

You are correct sir. VIN G = L69.

V 05-11-2006 12:27 PM

its just an LG4, oh well, its gettign another motor anyway. i checked the RPO again, and made sure that rpo sticker matched the VIN and it did, and i also checked the y-pipe connection, slip fit. Now heres the funny part, i cant remember if i stuck the dual snorkel on it myself when i first got the car last June... lol. and yeah L69 is G code engine. My 84 Monte SS was a G engine car with 74k miles on it.

Tru2Chevy 05-11-2006 12:30 PM

I dunno, but you should put that air cleaner on ebay when you do the swap. It will get picked up quickly.

IROCZBeast 05-11-2006 01:28 PM

is the car 5 speed? I'm pretty sure all 85 L69's came with 5 speeds.

And I think all L69's came with 4 wheel disk brakes too.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong though my third gen memory seems to be a little foggy since I bought my fourth gen  .

V 05-11-2006 01:54 PM

justin, im staying carbed, so im keeping the dual snorkel, plus im gonna get the air tubes for it and have it repainted to look nice.

nick, yes it is a 5spd, 145mph speedo too, but drum rear.

eh its not a big deal that its not a L69, considering i got the car as a gift basically from my friend who joined the army. Thats one reason an army sticker will always stay somewhere on the cars exterior. But he made me agree to 2 conditions if i took the car, 1, i couldnt strip it and part it out, and 2, i couldnt sell it. Both of which i have no problem with. However, the body has rust beyond repair(hard to se ein the pics) so everything useable will be swapped to a new chassis and in the process basically restored.

WayFast84 05-11-2006 08:59 PM

ill pick up the cleaner :)

camaro2you 05-11-2006 09:08 PM

matt, you can actually make one out of two single style cleaners.

V 05-11-2006 09:10 PM

matt, yeah im keeping the air cleaner like i said, lol
