Home Depot > FIPK :-D

Savage_Messiah 05-15-2006 05:28 PM

Why'd you go with the K&N one?? I hate thatnasty ass corner/bend it has in it (there it goes above/around the radiator) and also how it bottlenecks itself... but better than nothing I guess

If you have one in your hand you will notice how HUGE it is above those two kinks. I said the same thing myself but for a $150 bucks you can't complain for a brand new system from a trusted brand name.

:w00t: good stuff alex.... first when you said FIPK i thought about the one for the 98+ but then i remebered you had a 95 :D

I need to get rid of the heat thingy on the hood, it ruins everything it comes in contact with!

Savage_Messiah 05-20-2006 01:34 AM

V 05-20-2006 01:57 AM

Savage_Messiah 05-20-2006 02:17 AM

yea after i think '00 they realzied that after a few seconds of fire, it just contributes to it not retards it, so tok the stupdi things off. lol

GP99GT 05-20-2006 08:02 AM

mine is gone as well. take it off

BigAls87Z28 05-20-2006 09:50 AM

I always thought it was some sort of protection for heat not to cook the paint on the hood?

slayerxxx213 05-20-2006 10:10 AM

Yeah, same here Al...That's why I haven't taken mine off  Oh, and congrats on the intake TA4life ;)

qwikz28 05-20-2006 11:14 AM

i always thought it was sound deadening...

whats the difference between a vented and non-vented opti?

V 05-20-2006 02:22 PM

SS and WS6 hoods never got the insulation. kasey, i believe the rest still came with it up until '02.

Savage_Messiah 05-20-2006 02:45 PM

I don't believe so...

non vented opti's were in f-bodys from 93-94. Vented Opti's were from 95-97. After 3 years of the optispark, gm realized that moisture got in and ruined them. So adding a vent line that goes to the CAI, keeps it drier.

97slpss 05-20-2006 04:47 PM

mine doesnt have the insulation

BigAls87Z28 05-20-2006 10:40 PM

I havent seen them on Fiber glass hoods ever, but I think that is due to #1, its an aftermarket deal, and #2, they might disapate or not abosorb heat like a steel hood does. My Maxx has it.

Mike 05-20-2006 11:15 PM

tbss has it

Brando56894 05-21-2006 02:32 AM

my bird doesnt have it either

maroman88 05-21-2006 09:41 AM

all our cars have it minus the 67 bird with the aftermaret steel hood and the maro with the aftermarket fiberglass hood:)

Savage_Messiah 05-21-2006 02:01 PM

well the bottom line is you don't need it
