...since 1962, and no one is currently trying to stop it, and its also said it will continue to burn for at least another century, maybe more. check it out.

I dont know how you could put out a coal vein thats burning underground. eventually it will all burn out and the ground will collapse.

Jersey_TA 05-20-2006 09:45 PM

Yeah, I've driven by that many times on my way to my friend's house in sunbury, PA. There are only a few buildings left in that town where people still live there.

Brando56894 05-21-2006 02:43 AM

thats pretty cool

deadtrend1 05-21-2006 08:29 AM

silent hill....

Pampered-Z 05-21-2006 01:22 PM

I live 12 miles from there. It's very strange as over the years you drive thru the town and see houses and tree and such slowly sink into the ground. You can go there and walk around and in some areas your feet start feeling REAL HOT! On cold morning it's like a SCI-FI movie as the steam comes off the ground.

AN NJFBOA road trip would be awesome! Bring the car! There is actaully allot to do in the area, Numidia Dragway is one mile from my house in the other direction.

http://www.numidiadragway.net/

It actaully not hard to get to, take 78 west to Rt61, Take 61 north until you
hit Rt 42

Tru2Chevy 05-22-2006 03:59 PM

Yea, I've heard about this and seen that website before. Nice to see some of the new pics.

John, I didn't realize that you lived that close. All that toxic gas coming up from the ground kind of explains a few things....
