how much hp would it take to get a 88 camaro into mid 11s ? in the 1/4th ?
iv got a friend with an 88 camaro he says it ran an 11.5 the last time he had it at the track i know his car has $3500 in suspension mods but exactly how much hp would it take to get an 11.5 in an 88 camaro ?
|
It all depends. What motor is he running? What were the weather/track conditions? How much weight reduction is done to the camaro? Slicks? Gearing? Its pretty much not about the horsepower, its how the car is set up.

here is the cars set up i dont know how heavy it is but i know he did do some weight reduction to it but nothing drastic being its a daily driver

600cfm carb... hmm u'd think 11's would want a little more
|
ughh god the 600 cfm edelbrock. what a pain in the ass that piece of **** was.
|
how much hp do you think this guys engine has at the crank ? he claims its got 535 at 5500rpms
|
11's - you need 400-450 rwhp. Per your post on his mods.. I would say he has more like 350-375 HP max
|
sounds like a mid 12 motor he has there, carb and heads kill that motor
|
ok his car is 3320lbs if that helps any o and for suspension and tires

Snowflakes on an 88 Camaro? O.O |
I'd say in the area of 450 at the crank to go 11.5 @ 3320. My old 355 made 475 and went 11.30 @ 121 with my car weighing 3300.
|
Doubtful a 3300 lb car with those mods went mid 11's. That engine isn't anything great - little carb, little cam.

just ask to show some slips.

Really total HP doesn't always equate to what you'll run. Sticking to the ground and using the right convertor and gears gets you a long way. a 400HP motor behind optimal traction/convertor/gear could easily outrun a 500HP motor that isn't setup right for a 1/4 mile. |
yeah something seems a little fishy about this. The weight of the car shows he has some good weight reduction, and the motor sounds decent, no great, but decent.
The one thing that sticks out is 3500 is suspension? Is he running gold plated parts? I am not trying to come off as a wisearse but I have about 1500 or so into my suspension and I am cutting 1.5's. Point is, car hooks well for what is has. And I would agree to get a car of that weight into the mid 11's would take about 400-450 at the wheels. |

I seriously doubt that car has gone 11.50's, sounds like a 12.50 combo at best. The cam, carb and converter, amongst other things are pretty far off from what i would believe runs 11.50's. |
that is a tiny ass cam. i doubt that is a 500hp motor in a wet dream, much less real life.
|
I would have to say that he is pulling your willy...I give him with that setup 12.80 with perfect conditions!
