The finishing touches. What do you think?

Well I've decided on all the major componenets for my latest car audio endeavour. However, being my first venture in this field, I'd like to make sure that I have all the proper items. (Note: I am having a local shop take care of the installation duties, so basics like wiring as far as I know are supplied.) So let me know what you think and if there is anything else I may need? Like a new battery, alternator, or anything else to put the finishing touches on my system.

1) The Headunit- Alpine CDA-9857
(Would any of you suggest I buy this from Crutchfield for the little goodies, or would I be better off saving a few bucks being as how I'm going with the HUMount install kit?)

2) Subs - 2 10" Alpine Type-R Subs

3) Box - Subthump T-Top Box [Ebony Vinyl / Charcoal Carpet] (I think thats the right carpet color.)

4) Amp - Alpine MRD-M1005 Mono Amp

5) H/U Install kit - HUMount.com Trans Am kit

6) Extra Goodies - Alpine KCA-100BT Bluetooth Module

So what do you all think? Will I need anything else to beef up the electrical system? Any flaws in the set up?

Why?

I would like to know why as well.

saint 06-26-2006 05:13 PM

Now im reconsidering crutchfield for JUST the h/u. Or Best Buy. I'm not too sure. Theyre both priced the same, Crutchfield may come with a few more freebies though so it may be worth it. I just dont want to get screwed without a deck god forbid something happens ya know? The speakers and amp im not too worried about.

The other components are way too overpriced from Crutchfield so onlinecarstereo seems the way to go. And no thanks on the Type-E's but I appreciate the offer.

Tru2Chevy 06-26-2006 05:25 PM

Crutchfield = expensive.

That h/u from them is $350. With less than 30 seconds of searching, I found the same one for only $275:

Keep looking and you may find even cheaper.

Crutchfield is expensive + slow. I agree with Justin 100%, unless u want to hassle and spend extra $$$ and get ****** satisfaction + service. Just browse around some more, usually you can find it $40 - $100 cheaper than crapfield prices.

if a local shop is gonna be doing the install i think you should talk to them about buying the parts from them. they are gonna either dick you over with installation prices or try to persuade you to buy some of their equipment. do you know which shop your goin to? some shops like to carry only specific brands so you should really decide where you're bringing your car first. i know a couple good places if your in the north jersey area.

as for the electrical system. the stock alternator and battery will do fine for now. a high output alternator and an optima battery will be in order once the stockers go. one thing you definately wanna replace is the big 3. the big 3 are the battery to chassis, engine block to chassis, and the battery to alternator. upgrade those wires with some 2 gauge or some 1/0 gauge if you wanna be big dawg. innovativewiring.com has some pre-fabbed kits for unreasonably high prices.

saint 06-26-2006 09:38 PM

Yeah they are expensive, but what if the h/u from one of these places is damaged or gets damaged or SOMETHING happens and they wont let me return it or fix it? Ive gotta figure out what im gonna do about that. Plus, im moving to FL soon, so a big retailers warranty will be more useful than a local shops. Which is why BB seems to be the best way to go. Ive considered this for the amp too, but the price difference is just too much. 50 bucks isnt too bad (onlinecarstereo vs crutchfield)

I'm going to Audio Connections on 37 here in Toms River. Ive seen there work, its always good. They dont sell alpine, but i dont trust to many other places to do the work. plus theyre close and well priced and i know people who have dealt with them before.

qwikz28 06-26-2006 09:48 PM

whats the deal with the speakers? keeping them stock?

saint 06-26-2006 10:12 PM

For now. Yeah, ill live with the stockers.

But for when I do upgrade... Im leaning towards a set Alpine 6.5 Type-r componenets with this amp: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=14928

qwikz28 06-26-2006 10:32 PM

that amp is a new version of what i have in my car. alpine isnt really known for their amps. they are a bit expensive.

sounddomain.com has decent prices and they sell JBL amps. JBL amps are awesome.

another couple notes: forget getting 2 10s. bump it up to 12s. 12s hit lower and are louder with the same amount of power. you'll thank yourself later.

i think the alpine head unit and subs are good. make sure the subs are the new model type-r not the old one. subthump makes excellent boxes. look into the JBL amps, if not the alpine ones will do great. upgrade the wiring and have fun! you'll see how soon the stock speakers get outdone by the subs and you'll upgrade soon enough. good luck dude!

saint 06-26-2006 11:08 PM

Thanks bud.

Im not sure how to check that the subs are the newer versions, so ill call the retailer before I order to check, thanks for the tip. As for the speakers, lol I want to upgrade them now!! I just know what I want and cant drop the coin on it just yet.

lol sounds good.

Fozzi58 06-29-2006 06:33 AM

Sounddomain.com/cardomain.com store. I got a kick ass price on my JVC H/U from them. Way cheaper then Crutchfeild.

amargari 07-07-2006 09:45 AM

I would talk to the installer before ordering anything. Also, be careful of buying stereo equipment off of the web. You may have issues if you ever try to get warranty work on your unit. Also all legit Alpine dealers will advertise their prices at around the same amount. Alpine has a minimum advertised price policy. Any legit dealers discovered advertising at a lower rate will lose their distribution rights. Anyway, this is how it was when I was shopping for my head unit 4 years ago.
