Ah sheat -- choke light is on

So before I went on vacation, the "choke" light came on and voltage dropped to 12V (on the dash meter). When turning the car off it now dielsels. When I came back the car started and drove fine but same conditions. I'm going to borrow a multimeter from work and see what the battery and alternator voltage is.

From researching on-line the choke light should never be on with the engine running since the choke solenoid should short the circuit. It is on at bulb check and with engine running Other than checking all connections (and possibly re-crimping), is there anything I can quickly check?

Is there anyone local to South Jersey that can do a complete carb tune including choke and how much do you charge? I may be fine but it is time for a rebuild I think. I thought about getting a junkyard one and doing a rebuild but I just don't have the time. I'd rather give my business to a club member if possible.

The car is an 86 IROC LG4 - 4bbl with the stock Rochester Q-jet. It had 35k miles in 2003 and now has 48k. When warm it drives well and gets over 20MPG.
