first ticket.... :(

so i'm guessing that atleast some of you have gotten tickets. I got a 81 in a 50....5 point ticket. Anybody know a good lawyer? or what I shoudl expect? i'm 22 with no tickets ever till yesterday.

deadtrend1 08-10-2006 04:48 PM

i got a 72 in a 50 dropped down to a careless driving with no points with my lawyer. I can't tell you exactly what to expect cause im not a expert at the issue, and plus your speed was a little more then mine.

Just cause you never had prior tickets doesnt mean that they can't start now ... :)

Tsar 08-10-2006 04:54 PM

normally i would recomend this

http://www.biust.pl/pasaz/foto_duze/..._jelly_300.jpg

however today ill be nice and say; get a lwayer and talk to the procecutor guy, he'll most likely drop it to something less since you're a court virgin. good luck.

chrisfrom nj 08-10-2006 04:55 PM

baddest434 08-10-2006 04:59 PM

Oh dont worry about finding a lawyer. They will find you. I got a ticket for turning right on red where there was a sign that said "no turn on red" ( i did not see it, not from that area) and i got sooo many letters in the mail from lawyers and attorneys willing to take my money to get me out of it. I went in by myself and got the 3 points removed and my fine of $150, a $250 careless driving charge, and $33 court costs. So just be prepared to pay for it, but i got the points dropped. Good luck with everything. oh yea, be nice no matter how much of a dickhead the court guys are, they are not used to working with civilized people - just the usual trailer trash. Have fun in court!

NP_00'T/A 08-10-2006 08:39 PM

usually if its your first ticket the lawyer can get them to drop it to no points and double the fine...

Tru2Chevy 08-11-2006 03:21 PM

I would say just go talk to the prosecutor on the day of your court date. Up to you whether you want the extra insurance of bringing a lawyer.

I recently got my first speeding ticket (I'm 24). The ticket was for 59 in a 50, but I was actually clocked at 68. The prosecutor dropped it to unsafe (which they can only two twice in NJ in a 5 year period). The judge actually commended me on my otherwise clean record (knocks on wood).

As the others said, dress nice (khakis and a button down are fine), be polite, always refer to the judge as "Your Honor" and everyone else as Sir or Ma'm.

Pretty sure that you'll get off the hook - this time. Municipal courts could care less if you get points on your license. But they love charging you a fee to remove those points...

You guys gotta be moe cautious, how can you afford insurance on a 4th gen if your so young and get all of them tickets?

thats what 3grand + in insurance a year

Brando56894 08-11-2006 11:38 PM

or you could just talk to the prosecutor and have him drop it down to careless driving (2 pts.) or unsafe driving (0 points) both of which carry hefty fines...

i think i dropped around a grand to drop 6 points...

qwikz28 08-12-2006 12:43 AM

NY is 10x cooler...

my friend just went to court for 3 tickets that totalled to 13 points. (including driving with a suspended liscence) after talking to the prosecuter, $300 and no points.

WayFast84 08-12-2006 07:22 AM

Heres an idea,

Save it for the track.

Its such a waste of money to speed, due to wasting gas, tickets, insurance and god forbid you mess up an fbody in a crash!!

Oddball 08-12-2006 07:41 AM

Before you go to court get a haircut and when you go WEAR A TIE. For my speeding (80 in a 55), I had it knocked down to the same 5MPH as many others (Jersey has a $250 surcharge for the no-point offense). I saved $50 on my fine from everyone else. Why? The judge was big on "respect to the court". Others wore dirty jeans hanging off their ass, slouched, said "ya honna" with a bend wrist, hats, etc...

OneFast383 08-12-2006 08:05 AM

i got pulled over down here for racing.... they didnt give me a ticket for that tho... they gave me one for wreckless driving $350 no seat belt $20 and speeding 95 in a 55 $400 was 4pts for wreckless and 4pts for speeding, i went and explained to the prosecutor that i didnt have that kind of cash is there any way i can make payments.... she says how much do u have i said half... she says since u came in and talked to me instead of not paying it all ill drop it to half and no points i said thank you mam went and paid her and thats it.... never have had a lawyer in any speeding ticket cases... KNOCK ON WOOD i havent had any lately

Who said I was racing *******? I was on a MAJOR highway...where the speed drops to 50mph for no reason. I do save it for the track..I wasn't racing anybody.

my car is registered in pa..that how I afford the insruance...its only 900 a year right now, but i'm sure it'll almost double with i get any points.

thanks for the responses...I think I'll just go into court and be real nice and wear a suite and come with plenty of actual cash and i'll bring my cc if they don't take cash. Most of lawyers i've talked to charge 600-700 for just showing upm and say that they'll probably only be able to get it knocked down to 4 points. So f them.

WayFast84 08-12-2006 10:02 PM

Who said that I said you were racing?
