Header Progress

Just finished installing the prototype QTP Stainless Steel LT1 headers! Boy do they look good in my engine bay 8) They fit really nice install was cake! I am very impressed at how the install went. We ran into a few small problems that were easily fixed, but everything will be smoothed out for the prinal product due out by mid November.

you do plugs and wires at the time?

deadtrend1 08-14-2006 06:22 PM

are they coated?? When i put my slp's in, i did uncoated first, and then noticed a nice plastic burning smell in my vents, so i pulled them ou and coated them.

and like eric said, plugs and wires are easy to do with no pipes in the way... :)

they're stainless, no need for coat

what did u have to remove during the install? starter? alt? pass motor mount? anything?

Brando56894 08-14-2006 07:58 PM

looks pretty sweet bro, caint wait to see the end result :)

I didn't change plugs & wires just yet because the motor is comming apart this weekend so its no use.

They are polished stainless steel inside & out and when they heat up they bronze too a nice color :)

I only had to remove dust covers on the steering shaft, the throttle positioning dust cover, oil dipstick, oil filter and the altenator. There was also the AIR valves that I disconected from the top of the manifolds & one from behind the intake on the passanger side. Also when installing them from underneath the coolent sensors in the cylinder heads were in the way (we accidentally broke them)

As for the exhaust set up its going to be a 3" y-pipe (oval off the collector due to clearance issues) to a 4" collector -> 3" reducer out through my magnaflow 3" exhaust. Theres also a cut-out inbewteen for fun!

Were expecting to see big power gains on the dyno with these bad boys. Expect them out early November!

Brando56894 08-14-2006 08:17 PM

why 3" to 4" to 3"?? why not 3" all the way? (preparing self to get pwned  )

They look pretty good. I'm surprised you broke the coolant sensor(s) because I had no problem getting my headers in with leaving them in the head. I had other problems due to the minivan transmission that was in my car!

The flange on our headers was a lil to thick in the sensor area so I had to grind around it, but thats no problem.

Heres some pictures of the finished Y-pipe:

I accidentally deleted the picture with the dual cut-out & of it bolted on...
