a engine hoist from some one ill give yah a few bucks for the use of it, and a aircompressor, that can paint a engine bay. ill also give yah a few bucks for the use..

Matt, most compressors capable to paint well are larger like 60gal, and almost all of those require 220v, plus you still need to buy a gun, i suggest a HVLP, then you need the paint, primer, clear(if desired) along with all the reducers, hardeners, prep-sol, and dont forget a good quality respirator. Thats all another couple of hundred dollars.

Exactly. You won't be spraying your engine bay that way unless you've already got the stuff or you pay someone.

You can get pretty good results with Rustoleum Professional spray cans and excellent surface prep.

If prepped properly and cleaned VERY well, spray cans can do an excellent job. If I was painting the engine compartment black, i would probably have used a can, but i wanted a matching, finished look with the pewter so in that case, a HVLP gun was almost the only option.

Try just cleaning everything and it may look tons better just doing that. One piece of advice, if you start taking things out to clean, take GOOD pictures first of everything so when you have to put stuff back together, you can refer to the pics to see where everything goes.

thats a cost of at least 1000, but now i have all the stuff needed and it'll be cheaper next time i wanna do anything, Plus i have a need for a compressor and airtools much greater than most member on this board, so it was abotu time i got a compressor.

damn, I cant towe it any where to get it painted, and I cant afford it either, I dont have the engine out either, I guess, ill use rustoleum on the frames, and try polishing the actual bay?

Just clean everything real well once you have the motor pulled. Then see how it looks and decide what you want to do then.

If it's not a rust hole, just wire wheel it and spray it.

Since you are going to do this on the cheap (I assume) you can do your firewall etc this way:

Get an angle grinder and a wire wheel. Use that to clean off any rust, old paint, or whatever off. Then wipe everything down with mineral spirits. Then hit it with some rough sandpaper to give it tooth, and use mineral spirits again to get all the dust off. Then use Rustoleum Professional 2177 Semi Gloss to paint.

I've had excellent results with this method.

What he said. BTW, Rustoleum dries slow. Esp. in this weather.

i looked on rustoleum, and Im either going to get, charcoal gray, or silver for the engine bay, because I will eventually repaint my car silver.. I dont want to have it unmatch, but it allready does.. im also gonna paint framrails gloss black. and paint the motor i get, depending on condition

Semi-gloss black matches all... Rustoleum 7777

Paint it to match your car now, not maybe later.

and in you car, the "frame rails" are part of the engine compartment, dont paint them a different color

On top of that, gloss black shows every imperfection so it may point out every little imperfection.
