bellhousings from a 3rd gen v8 are different then a bellhousing from a 3rd gen V6. Bellhousings can be swapped though.

As for the tranny internally? I'm not sure. I guess they would have different gear ratios for one. And the V8 T-5 should be stronger then a v-6 .. oh wait a minute .. T5's aren't strong at all. .... :)

the bellhousing and the recomended clutch are the only differences most years.

so if i was too get a new bellhousing and a clutch i could use the v6 t5
i mean it has the smae gears and all as a v8 t5...can handle the same hp...

Im pretty sure the input shaft has different number splines than a V8. GM shows two different input shafts for 1988 to 1992 and 4 different input shafts for 1983 - 1987.

NJSPEEDER 12-29-2006 05:42 PM

the shaft part numbers changed a few times and they are different from the 83-87 and 88- up because they changed from the common t5 to the world class t5. the input spline on all t5's taht i have ever heard of was 16.
anyone know of any that were different?
