Who makes fiberglass hoods that are good fitment and quality? I know there's more bad companies thangood out there and i don't wanna end up buying a POS hood.

You can't go wrong with either VFN or Harwood.

I'm trying to think of how the VFN sunoco would look on my car... if i went with them it'd be that or a stock style one, i personally hate the 3" SS hoods. Anyone got any pics of 4.1 gens with that one, or with either of the available harwood ones? I do like the harwood 2.5" cowl, not sure hwo the ram air one looks

harwood sucks my brother bought a harwood hood for his old truck and they thing never fit right from the start and needed some body work too outa the box... cirvinis, goodmark, are two good companies.... i have a hood i got from some guy that makes em outa his house off ebay.... the fit is 100% perfect but it needs a load of body work... it was cheap tho only like $450.... soo you know how that goes... fiberglass sucsk period tho its never gonna be perfect just warning you.... unless its oem...

according to their catalog cervini's only has hoods for 3rd gens. Shoulda specified this is for my 97.

sorry bout that... i looked for my firebird there they dont make anything for that either... which sucks because they deffinitly make the best fiberglass hood iv seen at least.... we had a guy with a 2004 silverado and put a ws6 style hood on it from there it was sand prime sand paint... no body work at all and it was a black truck and it looked great... did you check goodmark?

cervini's makes really nice stuff, but their prices are out of control.
i hear a lot of good things about VFN and harwood is usually good(i have heard some bad stories about them)
VFN has by far teh widest selection of stuff and it is all available in carbon fiber construction as well :)

yea goodmark doesn't have 4th gens either. I will probably run by the body shop tomorrow and see what they recommend... the guy's got a 1st gen camaro of his own. Also think I'll call up VFN to see if their pin-ons still use the hinges, and call harwood to see how heavy their stuff is

why would a pin on hood use hinges? as the name implies it is held on with pins, a bolt on is the kind that bolts to the factory hinges.

wow i thought into it so much that common sense eluded me. I want one that'll use the hinges but pin in the front, is my only option then using a bolt-on hood?

no, most of the pin ons can use hinges and pin the front
they dont have the extra strength and mounting area for the latch

kasey, you arwe looking for a bolt on hood and then youd just remove the latch and use hood pins.

a true pin-on aka lift off hood would eb the lightest, I had a few on several of my cars and never had any issues. they are very light and you shouldnt have any problems removing one yourself.

btw, when i was gonna do a hood for my 94 Z28, i was gonna get a glasstek one. but that was a 4" pin-on for $300+shipping. They dont have a stock style flat version but they do have a factory ss style hood for 93-97 pin-on hood for $300(bolt on $530)+shipping(from illinois)

edit: btw if you had a 98+, they have a flat pin on hood for $260 (front end swap ftw? lol)

AFAIK Goodmark doesn't make fiberglass hoods, just steel.

VFN stuff is pretty nice, but carbon fiber isn't available at the moment....they have a message on their website that the prices are too high due to the military using so much of it at the moment....

Hi Kasey. Thanks for your interest in our products!
We can "blank" out the front latch area in the hood, so you can pin the front. but we would be unable to make the hood with only 1/2 a frame. In order to do this we would have to redesign the frame to add the strength only to the rear portion of the hood - something which we really don't have the time to do right now. Also, as far as cost, you would probably be paying just as much for the reg. bolt on hood for the extra labor and materials.

i absolutely hate normal cowl hoods

normal, right angled, boxy cowls.

I have a glasstek bolt on 4" cowl on my 70 nova and it is kick ass, required very little fit and finish at the body shop (DJ autorestorations, they kick ass too)....so check them out. and don't shop totally on price of the hood, cause your time (or even worse the body shop's time) is worth something. money saved on a cheap hood could easily triple the time it takes to finish and install it correctly, then the savings are gone.

1Qwikbird, me and kasey were talking about glasstek, i recommended them from what i heard in the past, and i was goign to buy a hood from them, but we couldnt think of anyone with first hand experience with their products. I was checking through their site and saw many parts for all out race cars, in addition to cowl hoods for street cars. So that gave me a sense that they were a higher quality company than some of those 'cheaper" places that sell on ebay that ONLY turn out hoods from a mold day after day and arent really concerned with quality. With glasstek selling to racers, who are much more critical, lol, i'd feel comfortable buyign from them, plus their prices are very competitive.

shoulda specified that i meant i hate normal cowls on 4th gens lol... 3rd gens and other older cars they lookgood on because the blend well with the body lines. I'm no way going to go with a cheapo ebay hood or the likes.

If I go with glasstek, the only options they have is a normal SS hood (which I like) or a 4" cowl.. which i wouldnt want
