Im done with spec clutches....

Well its showing tell tale signs of going defective on me, like the last one did... i put the clutch pedal down to the floor, and go to start it- the whole F'ing car starts to drive forward... and the worst part is, i think my 120 day warranty is up on it too! F!

qwikz28 01-03-2007 11:52 PM

ron, i think its time to just dish out money once and for all on a expensive clutch. if you find a rebuildable clutch like a mcleod or something you might end up saving money in the long run

Aren't Spec clutches kinda on the 'spensive side?

mcleod, textrilla, and some others are double what a spec costs (spec3 is usually in the 350-400 range)

i will always stick with a M6, for the pure fact that i enjoy ripping it thru the gears, and after a race, having people ask me "auto?" That makes me feel good. 8-)

Could there be anything else wrong that you keep wasting clutches?

negative, my friend pete had a spec stage 3. he put 600 miles on it before it **** the bed. so to speak. 600 miles! ahhhhhhhh

Mike 01-04-2007 07:39 PM

ehh my spec 3 is fine, used to launch it regularly at 3k on the 10bolt and now 4500-5k on the 12 bolt.....

the clutch outlived the 10bolt (twice) and the t56....

as of now, i would buy another spec.

98tadriver 01-04-2007 07:51 PM

Like many people have said, theyre hit and miss as far as reliability goes. Ive read about alot of negative experiences with them. IF i can get another spec stage 3 from them, for free of course, it will be up for sale on the boards for cheap

Thats why you blow your clucth up every 4 months. http://www.njfboa.org/forums/images/...s/icon_lol.gif get an LS7

z28c4maro82z 01-04-2007 09:20 PM

LS7 won't hold up to good ol' drag racing for long.

+1 for the textralia I'm looking into it as soon as I get the money.

PS, you automatic guys, I was one, Just think about how bad the 4l60e's are, and racing them often will result in 2-3k rebuilds often

Ugh, anybody at the Nats 2 years ago will remember why I hate Spec. Get the Textralia.

98tadriver 01-05-2007 09:31 PM

i have actually heard decent stuff with them, just nothing fantastic. textrillia and mcloud seem to own the clutch industry right now. if you plan on keeping the car and driving it and Ronning the crap out of it, i vote going for a rebuildable one

did it blow up on you?

Batman 01-07-2007 04:06 PM

It melted on it's 5th pass, only had 1500 miles on it. I had to use a hammer and chisel when I got home to seperate the flywheel, plate and disc. It was a mess, destroyed everything in the clutch

98tadriver 01-07-2007 07:00 PM

good god alllmighty! another reason why im not getting another spec
