a friend gave me the number a couple of weeks ago. so i called it. then i got this in an e-mail today from another friend.

this went around last year... i havent gotten any calls from solicitors.. and when i do ill sign up on the list. its not like we're gonna get CHARGED extra for the calls, i just dont pick up if i dont recognize the number. and if i do, ill hang up within a minute anyhow.

Is this one of them there interweb hoaxes? I was under that impression that was against federal law, just like faxing solicitations. The reasoning is your advertising can't cause people to incur costs (fax paper, air time, etc.).

well its a .gov site so thats legit

ive been getting calls on my cell phone for a long time now, usually for credit card consolidation, so i tell em that i dont even have a credit card and if i did i still wouldnt talk to them....

I feel like I see this notice annually.

All of this works fine- until you miss the fine print on something when you give your number out and end up opting in to phone calls. So be careful with that as well.
