Line lock help needed
Ok, i have a Hurst Roll Control setup I'm installing in my car. Its brand new and i got it years back, and I have since lost the instructions.
I bought the pre-bent line kit from Thunder Racing to make it a little easier, but i still have some questions. When i first installed the lines to the solenoid a few months back, im pretty sure I had the instructions so i believe the lines are in the correct positions, but i'm not 100% positive. I'd just like to double check that. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5.../linelock1.jpg Also, the solenoid has 4 ports, one on top, 2 on side and 1 on bottom(when mounted) Looking at this 2nd Pic, this is what i have... A. Out to ABS unit as Front line input B. plugged? id need a real plug(fitting is just there so i dont lose it. C. Plugged D. Input from Master Cylinder ... Also, i assume i should use teflon tape on the fitting ONLY on the solenoid, correct? And where can I get the plug i'd need for the port B? http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5.../linelock2.jpg The other parts from the kit i have are the following in the last picture. When wiring it up, im assuming I should just run the power for it from an accessory source, not batt. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5.../linelock3.jpg |
1.) Make sure you deactivate your ABS before you use it. :D
2.) I have instructions for this around somewhere, I can scan and post them tomorrow PM. I think the roll control has letters stamped onto it which signify where to put what. You will be plugging some of the ports. 3.) Wire to accessory, not batt. 4.) To the best of my knowledge, no teflon tape on brake fittings. Teflon tape and sealant are for use with NPT threads. The brake line end will be double flared and seal against the seat. |
Many people have this setup with ABS, and theres no real way to shut off ABS that i know of. I'll probably never use this anyway, but i figured id install it now while it was all apart anyway.
I am pretty sure the threads on the solenoid are NPT, the other ends for the master and ABS unit are a different style, the regular brake style. I also tried the Hurst website, but now they are part of B&M... and the site is being updated... so who knows when itll be back up. i went to the linked B&M site and looked at thier "launch control" and its completely different. |

ah ok thats is axactly what i needed. as for the threads maybe i just need tape on the plugs since obviously theres no flare to seal with. but i'll look into that.
As for the ABS thing.. i honestly dont know what all the 4th gen guys do... hopefully someone here has it and can enlighten me. lol. |

Dont worry about deactivating the ABS. i have the SLP linelock on my car and its fine :). I thought the same thing at first. the abs only does its job when your moving and the exciter rings that are on the axles turn and the sensors on the backing plates sense them turning, etc etc etc. lol sorry im not the best at splainin' things, but bottom line, youll be ok! you WILL have to bleed the brakes after installing that thoough! linelocks are cool, they enable you to do 4th gear burnouts if u have a M6 car |
Yeah why would you deactivate ABS? As long as the car isn't moving it won't do anything.
|
Not sure where I heard that. It may be referring to another type of car and I made and inaccurate generalization... just forget it... :D
|
ah ok sounds good then. I am just waiting for the header studs to arrive so i can bolt up the headers and then i'll deal with the brake setup, with it removed right now it gives me a little more room to access the headers.
as for bleeding, since i had the front lines out of the ABS unit for several months, i knew i was going to have to bleed everything anyway, so since i had the line lock sitting on a shelf, now was the best time. i even pulled the master, emptied it, and cleaned it up. once its all bled, ill have all new fluid in the system. lol. |
hmm, im not sure, but it looks liek a few others could help ya ; ive got the SLP line-lock setup on my car, and i love it
|
yeah I used mine on my 98 Z with 0 issues for a while.

You need adapter fittings on all outlets going to brake lines which go from NPT (on the solenoid) to inverted flare.
in all things, especially brakes, please take the time to investigate the correct fittings/parts required. if you do get them to seal with the wrong fittings, you risk putting your car/life in danger when they fail. NPT threads get teflon tape or paste inverted flare get nothing. |
ok, i printed out the instructions and read them over several times, lol.
I had the input goign to the wrong port, so im glad i made this thread. Today i got a second 1/8" plug to block off the other unused port, and i also got a 1/8" NPT to inverted flare adapter fitting for the output to the abs unit. All the ports on the line lock solenoid itself are NPT so they got teflon tape. The lines going into the line lock adapter fittings are inverted flare so they got nothing. The lines going from the master to the line lock, and from the line lock to the abs unit, were pre-made from Thunder Racing for this application so they already have the proper inverted flare fittings already installed. So right now everything is hooked up and looking good. tomorrow i have to drill the holes to mount the solenoid and then wire it up. by the end of the week, i'll deal with bleeding the brake system. |
cool man, glad u got it worked out
whats NPT mean ? |
