It could if it was completely clogged, but usually it just makes it run sh*tty.

Actually......a clogged catalytic converter can make the car not start. u'd have to unbolt the converters and let them hang and let the exhaust run on open headers or manifolds *wutever u got* and then try and start it.

in my experience, I've never seen a cat got so plugged up that the car wouldnt start.

the fact that the car runs fine but has trouble starting tells me there is nothing wrong with the cat. if the cat was bad, the car would run like poop all the time, not just wile trying to start it.

yup.... the car started like it had a bad fuel pump. it would crank over for a while and then start like it was barely getting gas. once the car was warmed up for the day, it would run great. car is an 01 Grand Am 2.4 btw

Any way to check fuel pressure at the fuel rail? I would start there....

my cat got clogged once hit it with a tac hammer and it never ran better....

EASY way to check would be to unplug the o2 sensor in front of the cat...this will give you enough exhaust flow to get around that problem temporarily...if in FACT it IS the cat.

And YES to anyone that is wondering...the car will run fine with no 02 sensors, it'll just run in open loop which is no big deal temporarily...in fact most cars will run fine with very few sensors actually attached ;)
