Nascar's car of tomorrow?

/rant
WTF are they thinking making it look like rice? It's on speed channel right now. The new spoiler looks like rice all over it and front ground effect spoiler called "the splitter". yuck.

its all about the air flow -- what works not what looks -- shame -- jz

maroman88 03-02-2007 06:18 PM

old news and yes very gehhhhh. but since all the cars are the same body now with diff headlight stickers who cares? nascar is goin down the ****ter, god dam toyota!

Jersey_TA 03-02-2007 06:20 PM

I'm just used to the way the cars have looked over the years and when I see that spoiler....yuck.

baddest434 03-02-2007 06:22 PM

those cars look horrible! i heard their changing the daytona 500 to the "uncle bens" 500. yuk is right

Fast92RS 03-02-2007 06:35 PM

I dont like it one bit.....

NJSPEEDER 03-02-2007 11:34 PM

ricer spoiler, car that in no way resembles the street version who's name it shares? yup, sound like typical nascar junk.
maybe they will set a lot 10 year low in attednace and tv viewership like last year. lol
what a piece of crap, can't wait to watch nascar floating face down while open wheel racing again resumes control of american television. lol

I don't like the car...the sport has been going downhill since Dale Sr. died. When he was racing it was ok to "bump and run" now you get called to the trailer and fined. Bill France and Mike Helton are tryingto sanitize it so it's more "family friendly". I guess they forgot that Nascar was started by a bunch of redneck moonshine runners.

Batman 03-03-2007 06:57 AM

That's what you get for letting Toyota in, now you have to appeal to the import crowd.....

QFT... i wonder how much fanbase they lost by letting Noyota in

NJSPEEDER 03-03-2007 10:10 AM

they didn't lose any more of their fan base than has been walking away for the last few years anyway. no one cares what name is on the car, because the vehicle and it's drive train in no way resemble any vehicle that company makes anyway.
how many carb'ed 350's are in current production cars? how many 4spd manuals are in current production cars? hell, outside of a sticker on a cup car there is no such thing as a 2 door ford fusion.
they are crap cars, still terribly dangerous, and have less technology in them than a kia rio.

I don't care one bit for the way they went about the "Car of Tomorrow" design, just makes NASCAR one step closer to IROC. I still say they should use a production body with a tube frame, toss a 3"-4" front and rear spoiler on them, and then see what manufacturer starts running circles around everyone else.

It'll never happen though. Hopefully Speed Channel will up it's coverage on other forms of racing more now that ESPN is gonna have eleventy billion NASCAR shows on now.

i love the way people complain about them putting "ricer" spoilers on it, yet theyre doing it for function, not form. who cares how it looks, if it goes faster that way, then so be it

It actually goes slower that way. That's another goal of the car of tomorrow. Slower and safer. They are taller, wider, and less aerodynamic than the current cars. And, IIRC, they have slightly less downforce.

nope. they have good downforce only different, so the teams are getting used to setups....

oh yeah and they ARE faster they have been breaking 200 mph at vegas, talledega and a couple other tracks in testing

I stand corrected then.....I thought they were posting slower lap times in the COT cars at vegas and other tracks than the current cars.

Mike 03-05-2007 01:35 PM

48 car hit damn near 210mph

NJSPEEDER 03-05-2007 04:59 PM

they shoudl call it the car of 35 years ago, it would be more appropriate for the level of technology in those turds.
BTW, COT testing was not done with the restrictor plate if the teams decideed not to use one. current testing is only for "handling", not actual race condition according to nascar officials.
funny, turning more than one car loose at a time turns into race conditions pretty fast when guys are out there bumping each other. lol

WayFast84 03-05-2007 05:17 PM

I love this ugly pos car of tomorrow! I cant wait, im gonna steal one soon then enter it in the Hot import night show!!!!

SupermanX24 03-05-2007 06:50 PM

Eh, The COT kinda grew on me over the passed few months. Racing is Racing. But that's just me and my opinion.

ALMS> SCCA World Speed GT> hell...American D1 > NASCAR

Nascar is worthless. All that investment, and zero return. With all those people that watch NASCAR, you would think that the Impala, Fusion and Charger would be the 3 top selling cars in America.
Only the Impalla is...with 40% going to fleets.

World GT and ALMS actualy improve the breed of production cars. The CTS-VR team beems, in real time, information from the race car to GMPD so that they can improve the CTS-V's production car.
The current Z06 is bad ass BECAUSE of C5R and C6R race cars. They took certain things like the carbon fiber body parts, moving the engine lower and farther back then standard C6, dry sump oiling system, as well as several other systems to make the current Z06 one of the most bad ass cars on the planet.
When was the last time the Monte Carlo benifited from Gordon or Johnson's win on sunday?
I hope that Camaro enters against the Mustang Cammer cars in Grand Am GT class, or the return of Trans Am...

NJSPEEDER 03-05-2007 08:19 PM

the camaro is already being discussed as an SCCA Pro and Solo2 stock catagory class killer, an ALMS GTclass compteitor, and a Rolex Endurance GT and lower competitor.
the camaro will also fit vey niely into the formulas of several amateur catagories in the SCCA
