accelleration problem

Unfortunately this is my first post here at NJFBOA. I have had some trouble with the registration process :P. Anywho, to my problem.

whenever i go to accelerate in my 95 camaro 5 spd manual, if i accelerate somewhat hard, i will feel like a jolt. also happens when i decelerate hard. i do not believe its my transmission moving. i was considering maybe a motor mount? it feels as if the engine is moving a little when i accelerate and decelerate quickly. any suggestions? if anyone is in the hamilton / trenton area and would like me to possibly demonstrate it let me know. I really want to figure it out because i also think it is weakening my performance.

could be a motor mount or a trans mount is the check engine light if it is it can be a bad sensor

SupermanX24 03-07-2007 08:13 AM

any noises or just a jolt?

Tru2Chevy 03-07-2007 08:40 AM

Welcome to the club!

Sounds like a bad motor or tranny mount. Approximately how far does the shifter move up when you hit the gas from a stop?

bobb1589 03-07-2007 10:00 AM

shifter doesnt really move thats the thing and a service engine light comes on every once in a while I have had it on a scanner and it wont read any codes... also, i started it up yesterday and it was really rough... the car would shake... i believe this happened because it was cold but even when its cold it shouldnt do that should it? and if it is the motor mounts is there anyway of me telling that was it before i took it somewhere?

Where in the Hamilton/Trenton area do you live? There are many of us around that might be able to take a quick look at your car in the next few days to see if it's a broken mount, or something more serious.

i have a 94 camaro 5speed and i know this one all too well it has to do with fuel delivery...when i did my injector swap it went away....it also may be the map sensor or the air charge temperature sensor

this is a 3.4 were talking about right??? i never heard of a 5speed v8

It would be a 3.4 or 3.8, and i wouldn't necessarily jump straight to conclusions like a lack of fuel. Unless it's really modded, the stock fuel system is more than adequate to handle the fuel demands.

bubba428 03-07-2007 12:56 PM

if its the 3.4 the stock fuel injectors can only suple 160hp worth of fuel...now with a cold air or exaust the injectors become very in effecient and cause such an issue

I am leaning towards a broken or damaged mount as well.

bobb1589 03-07-2007 04:52 PM

i am located right by steinert high school... its definitely not the transmission moving because the shifter does not move... i would definitely notice it because i keep my hand on the shifter when im driving to shift... yes it is a 3.4

just a tip...its not a good idea to keep your hand on the shifter while driving. it can prematurely wear out the plastic inserts in the synchros which later down the road will cause it to pop out of gear when you take your hand off.

i would go with either a motormount or even possibly a slight miss.

bobb1589 03-07-2007 05:29 PM

hmmm thanks for the suggestion... im leaning towards the motor mount though... are they hard to replace? is there a way for me to check myself?also when it is cold, im driving and ill accelerate quickly and it feels like its hesitating to go its hard to explain

yes... i established that when i got the car :p... im really hoping someone in my area can come take a drive in it with me so we can maybe figure it out?

bobb1589 03-09-2007 03:17 PM

anyone?

98tadriver 03-09-2007 03:41 PM

what kind of ignition does it have? is your SES light flashing? mine did the same thing before, it was a bad coil pack on # 2 cylinder

bobb1589 03-09-2007 11:16 PM

what is SES? :-p the service engine light does go on every once in a while randomly and then will go off.

bobb1589 03-10-2007 08:17 AM

is there a way to check the ignition coils? it is just the stock ignition... but the thing is i should probably mention it doesnt do it ALL the time.

Yes, there is. Next time there is a code thrown (your service engine soon light goes on), immediatly go get it scanned. If it says "cylinder x Misfire" clear the code and swap the coil pack that goes with the misfiring cylinder with one of coils that goes with one of the good cylinders. The next time it throws the misfire code go get it scanned and see if the misfire has moved to one of the cylinders attached to the coil pack being tested. Be sure to keep track of where you are putting your plug wires during this. If your coil packs are numbered you will be putting them out of order.

bobb1589 03-10-2007 05:37 PM

does the SES light have to be on for it to read errors? because the light is off now but it does go on every once in a while and it goes off after i restart the car.

bobb1589 03-10-2007 08:48 PM

and is anyone free possible tomorrow to take a ride in it? i am gonna take my dad for a ride to show him but you guys know more about f-body's and their problems than he does so i would love it if someone who new alot about this type of situation to check it out

98tadriver 03-10-2007 09:11 PM

for misfires the ses light will usually blink

bobb1589 03-10-2007 09:45 PM

not blink... i will just be driving and it will just go on and then when i turn the car off it will go away... and then it may be a day or two before it goes on again sometimes several days in between the going on again

Some codes will clear themselves after a short time. Next time you get one, head to Autozone or your local parts place to get it scanned. They do it for free.
