bullsh1t ticket

got a ticket for my tint...
statue 39:3-75

thing is only my back 3 windows are tinted so idk how this is legal, thing is i got it instead of an overdue inspection ticket, should i bother fighting it?

mike, what do u think about this

Knipps 03-13-2007 09:49 AM

maybe after you get it inspected

iamsickofitall 03-13-2007 10:41 AM

get the car inspected before your court date and then fight it

GrandmasterCow 03-13-2007 11:49 AM

on a 2 dr vehicle in nj the front two windows & windshield cannot be tinted, the other windows can be tinted as dark as you wish, so getting a tint ticket for your tint isn't legal, but, the cop gave you that ticket instead of the inspection ticket, so not sure.

jimmyboy8301 03-13-2007 11:58 AM

with overdue inspection, you could have had the vehicle towed, plus paid a ticket, plus paid for the tow, plus paid inpound fees, plus paid to get it out. However your tint is not illegal. But i wouldn't bother fighting it because he did you a huge favor.

jims69camaro 03-13-2007 12:23 PM

yeah, this kind of question really makes me scratch my head. the cop did you a favor and now you want to stick it up his ass?

I've heard that about the rear windows for years, so I looked this one up. No where in statute 39: 3-75 does it say that certain windows may or may not be tinted. It says, "No person shall drive any motor vehicle equipped with safety glazing material which causes undue or unsafe distortion of visibility or equipped with unduly fractured, discolored or deteriorated safety glazing material, and the director may revoke the registration of any such vehicle." Aftermarket tint is NOT "approved safety glazing material." Therefore, the law can be interpreted that NO TINT is legal and the police officer can decide what is and isn't safe. It sucks, but it's better than Failure to Inspect, which is an automatic $180-something dollars. If it were me, I'd just pay the ticket. It's not a moving violation and won't affect your insurance. But you're not me, so whatever! Just throwing my two cents in.

im still techincally under the 45 day window for failure to make repairs so my car wouldnt of been towed or any of that. i know exactly the kind of break he gave me, but its really not a break at all considering i showed him the written warning my town gave me 2 weeks ago today consering the inspection. im not trying to "stick it up his ass," i ddint give him a hard time, but i do believe he was wrong.

besides giving me a 50 dollar ticket is 50 dollars that could be spent fixing my car to make it pass inspection.

foff667 03-13-2007 01:15 PM

if you were still within the window yes I would fight the tint ticket. But you have to think is it worth a 6 or 8 hour day at the court?

maroman88 03-13-2007 01:17 PM

didnt u already get a ticket cuz u didnt have the paper work from the inspection station when u failed? or was that someone else lol.

anyway if he gave u a tint ticket instead of the falure to inspect, just be happy.

a written warning from your town? whats that worth to another cop 2 WEEKS later? that says to him that you still havent fixed it and are still driving the car....

yeah that was me

i probably wont fight the ticket, im sick of going to court. its just pretty lame, thats all.

Tru2Chevy 03-13-2007 01:48 PM

If you are within your 45 day reinspect window for failing inspection, then you have every right to go to court and fight it. Did you show the cop your paperwork from the inspection?

heh, no i forgot i had it, it was in the trunk.

JL8Jeff 03-13-2007 10:01 PM

Fix the car and get it inspected already. You're just asking for tickets driving around like that.
