Anyone know of any good shops to take my 98 Formula to in Central NJ?

Looking for a shop who can help me out with some needed car work on my 98 Formula that is around the Central Jersey area. I know East Coast Supercharging is only a few miles away, but I have called them every day for the last 3 days and they haven't been answering their phones. I don't even know if they would work on my car because their website leads me to believe they only work on C5's, and C6's.

Anyone know of a reputable shop that won't rip me off around here?

You could try Buster's Auto in the Trenton/Hamilton area. It's on South Broad Street close to the Whitehorse Circle. When I lived in Trenton and I first got my '81 Camaro, they did all of my work for me. They work almost exclusively on F-bodies and I'm pretty sure they specialize in 4th gens.

I am looking for a place I can get the new sub frame connecters welded in (preferrably a place that has done them before like an F-body shop). I also have some lowering springs to go in (I know I could do this at the Hobby shop here on base, but I've done it before on my 94 Formula and it was a royal PITA), and finally I will have a new master and slave cylinder to go in the car soon.

It would just be nice to know of any shops that work on or specialize in F-bodies that are reputable around here.

hardline 42; to you have any contact info for Busters? They don't seem to have a website (at least any that I could find).

I know what you mean. None of those sound fun. The only shops I know are the major ones. Oh, you could try Harris speed in philly. I know them personally = good guys.

Well it looks like these guys went out of business. Sucks big time since they focused on LS1 performance. I'm actually off right now to Langhorne to meet up with Josh at JS Performance. He's gonna install my Canton oil system and a new tubular K-member. He seems very well recommended on this board so I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks, please do, as it seems they might be the ones doing some work on my car now that Busters is gone.

Could you be more specific? Did they do a lousy install or brake something and then tell you to go F*#% yourself? Whats the deal?

Mike 03-28-2007 04:20 PM

they put in my clutch, told me it would be done at a certain time, it wasnt, had to go get the car at 10pm. while it was there they told me that their slave was better than the 02 oem slave i brought with me so i let them put it in.

2 days later my clutch dies at atco, slave leaked all the fluid into the bellhousing and i had no pedal. had it towed home and then towed back to ecs. they put my original slave back in for free and gave me the 80 bucks back, but it took them a week. i called on a friday morning and they said it would be done, i called back at 4pm and it wasnt. they then called me at 9:30pm and said " your cars done can you come get it now, because we have an open house for our vette customers and we cant have any f-bodys taking up space, especially one in this condition"

they have a nice shop, they do good work, and they backed up their work when it broke.....but their attitudes toward me will keep me from going back

Having taken my car to numerous speed shops over the years, I know what is common in the good ones and the bad ones. Word of mouth can make a company, and it can destroy it. Really bad shops would've over charged you, broke something, and then expect you to pay for it, have your car leave their shop overcharged, and underpowered, and then have your motor blow up, only which after they tell you, "well it had mileage on it, it could've gone anythime" (this is a long dramatic story to which I am just scratching the surface of just one bad experience I have had. Others that might not be as bad would be one that charged me $500 to try to see if the opti was bad, only to tell me the couldn't find out. Good companies tell you a price and stick to it, if something goes wrong with your car do to them they fix it for free or give you your original money back, or in some cases both. I will tell you that pretty much all companies both good and bad will always take longer than they originally told you. Being a Corvette shop, I can't say it surprises me they wanted your F-body out of the shop, since they specialize in Vette's and generally speaking the Vette guys spend more money. I think they could've been a little nicer to you, but is sounds like they at least took care of you in the end for the most part.

How were they price wise for everything?

I'm telling you man, go see Josh. Its affordable and of the highest quality i have seen.

CALL911 03-28-2007 07:58 PM

Well, after being forced to wait while UMI catches up with all their orders, and having to buy new wheels and tires for my Z back in storage, I won't be taking the car anywhere for probably another month anyways. So, it gives me a good chance to learn as much as I can about all the shops in the area. Josh is still the most likely place I will take my car to as of now. However ECS is just 5 minutes from my house unlike Josh who is 45 minutes away. Convienience is nice as well sometimes.

hardline_42 03-28-2007 09:33 PM

I have to say I was very impressed with Josh and JS Performance after my visit today. He took the time to chat with me, show me some of his current projects, and took a look at my car for free (and quickly identified my engine as an iron headed caprice/impala LT1 that had been swapped in :(. Shows you how many times I've looked under the hood of my own car). He broke down his pricing for me, talked me out of some unnecessary mods and even took the time to gawk at a set of C6 Z51 rotors that I had in my car for my '81. Needless to say I plunked down a deposit on the spot and I can honestly say I'm confident in him working on my car. Once I get the stuff installed (in about a week or two when all the parts come in) I'll let you know how it goes.
