FBI agent killed on Rt. 22
 

An FBI agent was killed in a shootout with three bank robbery suspects Thursday in north central New Jersey.

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the agent's family had not been told of his death, said the agent was alive when brought to University Hospital in Newark by helicopter, but efforts to save him failed.

Other law enforcement officials, also speaking anonymously because the investigation was ongoing, said agents were investigating a string of recent bank robberies in central New Jersey when they came upon the suspects leaving a bank near Route 22 in Readington. A shootout ensued.

One suspect was captured and two fled to nearby woods, the official said. State and local authorities are searching for the suspects with helicopters and dogs.

State Route 22 was closed off. A flood of police cars and officers from multiple law enforcement agencies were seen in the area.

I knew those motherf****** weren't going down without a shootout...I'm glad my guys weren't the ones to catch up with them.

According to newspapers' websites, as well as the nice lady at the auto mechanics with a handheld scanner, they have caught 2 of the 3, and are searching for the other.

CNN, on the other hand, I was watching and said that only 1 guy was caught and 2 are still at large.

Either way, an FBI agent is now dead :-(

I'm trying to find out from my coworkers (police dispatchers), but they are.... well.... kinda busy.

crazy s***. they should have just shot the mfer's they have handcuffed. scumbags. and i did'nt think readington rt22 was near philadephia, as the news anchor stated.

Now they're saying it was friendly fire that killed him.

if he had henrik lundqvist he might of won that shootout...
