SLP Billet Steel Flywheel

Two quick questions.

-Should/can an SLP billet steel flywheel be resurfaced before swapping to a new clutch?

-The flywheel I have has 30-40k on it and I'm planning on running either the Spec 3 or the Ram Powergrip HD with it. Will this flywheel work with either combo?

also while I have ya here...will the Ram HD survive occasional slick launches with 500ft-lbs?

it shoudl be able to be resurfaced several times during it's service life, unless it was terribly hot spotted or warped at some point.
i woudl suggest looking around at some of the lightweight flywheels that are around. i have seen prices on them steadily coming down for a year or so now, maybe you can get a better piece for jsut a few bucks more or get a deal on one of the clutch + flywheel combo's that many of the manufacturers have.

This is a "lightweight" flywheel, just not an aluminum one. from what i've heard aluminum is pretty finicky on the street. Also, this flywheel cost me nothing and i'm planning on running either the spec 3 or ram powergrip hd, neither of which come with a flywheel

you just have to watch how u drive it with an aluminum flywheel. If it is super light you might end up droping rev's very quickly when you step on the clutch. I think you're supposed to have a super close gear ratio and a very short shift throw when you use one.

Also (don't kno how true this is), i was told that using an aluminum flywheel can also knock your crank shaft out of alignment (like push it forward or something like that). Maybe i was "told" wrong, i dunno.

I have the SLP one and f'in love it. I noticed that the car rev's much faster.

I have a SPEC 3+ with their Aluminum flywheel, which has a billet steel insert which can replaced as necessary. It revs pretty quick and the clutch has been perfect. Multiple trips to Atco, multiple autocross events...no problems to report. It will chatter just abit if you don't give it some rpm on take off, but its been a great package so far.

The SLP unit is steel and designed to be lighter then the stock LT1 FW but not at light as an Alum unit so the idea is you free up the engine to rev a bit quicker without the "problems" of running a lighter alum unit.

Yes you should be able to resurfaced if your talking about just cleaning it up, you can't go too much or you run the chance of the PP won't do it's job. I don't know for sure, I have no experience with resurfaced FW and LT1s. (They say because of the design of the the PP on an LT1 its said to have limited travel which causes the problems when then FW is cut.).

Sorry, that's all I can offer. I don't have any first hand experience with resurfaced FW and LT1s.

I used the Mcleod clutch with the SLP FW on my old motor no problem so the Spec or Ram should be fine.
