rearend plans...
I'm thinking about building a track only rear for my car...
I have 3 spare 10 bolts laying around so i figure what the heck... This is what i was thinking, if i miss something or something isnt right, feel free to let me know, lol... stock 10 bolt housing(free) stock axles(free) OEM 3.42 gears(free) Motive full spool(82.39) TA rear end girdle w/main cap stud kit(179.94) Ratech deluxe gear install kit (122.99) I'm going to learn to set up this rear myself, so installation wont be a factor. And I wanna stick with the 3.42s for now. It'll be a few months before i even consider buying stuff, but I figure for about $400 it should be a pretty strong rear for my application and i'll actually run sticky tires with this, like hooiser Q/T tires. advice? opinions? |
If you use a spool you will need C-Clip eliminators. Otherwise you will not have any axle retention aside from the disc brake caliper...
While you have the axle empty you can get the tubes welded to the center section. I'm betting that it will be pretty cheap. |
i figured id need c-clip eliminators, but the specs on the spool on summit said its not required...?
ooooooooooo, i see... the part line is "full spools" but then it says carrier type"mini spool" i gotta find a true full spool.... http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MGR%2DMS75%2D28&N =700+4294925134+4294839047+4294912505+401013+115&a utoview=sku but yeah i could have them welded easily and for free. |
What kind of power are you making? What car is it going into?
|
Not required? Eh? I think that may be a mistake, or that's a mini spool listing.
http://www.motivegear.com/pages/Spools/spool_photos.htm They seem to only list a mini spool for your application. |

yea in my pervious post i checked it again ans saw it was under "full spools" but it was the mini.... would a mini be worth it? my first rear i shattered the carrier itself and put pieces out through the rear cover. steve, its for my 01 camaro SS. i should eventually be making about 400hp or so at the wheels. im already on my 3rd rear and i dont wanna run real tires on the one i have. i can swap out a whole rear in 15 min or so. On friday i ran but got no traction whatsoever, i was doing 14.0@113.48. |
if you want to build a 10-bolt that stays together read this thread: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...u+be+the+judge

paul's got 1111 on you. 5555

yea, apparently no one makes a full spool for a 7.5 10 bolt, even then, another 150 for c-clip elims... not worth it IMO
j0n, That thread is really interesting. I think i'm eventually going to go with the LPW Racing support cap cover and axle brace kit for starters. It seems basic enough to install on my current rear, especially since my gears are 100% quiet and if i can avoid pulling then, ill be happy. LPW cover $167.99 LPW Axle brace kit(min depth version for f bodies) $119.99 so under $300 for added strength... not too bad. And i can have the tabs welded to the axle tubes for free. If i break that setup with drag radials, ill upgrade from there. here a link to LPWs install info on a 96 f body.... http://www.lpwracing.com/install_1.asp and like i said, this isnt going to be an immediate purchase, sometime in the beginnign of summer, so ill keep looking into it. |
