so0o exited about this build i put the Upper and Lower intakes in there so you guys had a visual on what i'm doing.

Check out the design of the lower runners. The LSx guys will recognize the criss cross disign

Congrats on getting your stuff in.....but what's the big deal about the lower intake? Most intakes look similar to that....

it increase the runner length from the stock 3.4rwd 2in runner, to this 3400fwd 8in runner. The longer the runner the more air charge accelleration, there for increasing the effeincy of the cam I got. not to mention by swaping the heads I'm increasing the intake valve to a 1.76in valve. There should be some decent numbers soon to come. I'm expecting low 14s and POSSIBLY, not saying it will happen but tweaking the computer right I think I can hit 13s.

Ahh...I didn't realize that the 3.4 cars were stuck with crappy little runners. I know all about the Gen II vs Gen III FWD 60* motors, but not so much about the 3.4 RWD.

yea...first the air has to go though that tiny camaro TB, then into that big Y shape plentum, 45* angle down to the lower intake then another oposite 45* angle into the heads through the 2in runners. Thats why a quick P&P won't do squat to help power.

EDIT: I'd I hope I knew what I was talking about, I've spent a year reserching and asking questons. Now i jusyt got a MASSIVE load of parts. the only factory parts are gonna be the bottom end parts, less the pistons

Mike 05-02-2007 08:44 AM

you should DEFINATELY either polish or powdercoad that intake.

other than that, due to the obvious research you have put into this, im gonna stop being a **** about your plans untill it is proven or disproven on the track. (just dont end up talking up a big game like lethalrides did and then running 18s.)

good luck bubba

bubba428 05-02-2007 08:52 AM

Nah, not me, I appreciate the advice tho, theres been a few guys that did this and got into the mid 14 range with stock cams and mild cams and stock tuning. I have a computer on order thats PC programed and 100% flexible. I'm taking the project further than anyone else tho. so I got a bench mark to beat. I'm not pulling numbers from the batcave....

How very magnanimous of you.

I got a box from Summit yesterday...all I got was a thermostat & housing. :(

 But is is a nice billet housing.

Good luck Bubba man, make them eat their words.

bubba428 05-02-2007 09:29 AM

some how I wound up spending 3Gs on it...can't figure out how....not on that order...all together

EDIT...just did the math and yup...that blows

Should ahve gotten the new 3900 intake manifold with the variable intake paths for improved torque and horsepower over the rpm band.

3 grand...low 14s goal...

Stupid question for you (I know very little about the 3400):

Since you are going from a 2" intake runner to an 8", does that create any type of hood clearance issues because of the longer runner or different upper intake manifold?

alexm 05-02-2007 05:15 PM

good luck bubba nice project for you to hack into. Get it running soon be interesting to see the numbers

well the 3900 has ofset cylinder and the block is a new casting unlike the 3500 which I could yus the heads which would diliver more power but the price difference to power increas ratio ain't worth it at this point. The manifold is simalar to the 3.4RWD and would be too tall. Thanks for the idea though

The intake runners are accually laid down and transverse the intake manifold, because of that the manifold is accually shorter than stock, yet its bigger at the same time.
