C5/C6 Rear Brakes Conversion now available...
I just spoke to Tobin from www.kore3.com about a rear C5/C6 conversion kit for LT1 f-bodies that he had been developing for some time. It's not listed on the website yet (the parts just came back from the plater) but they are available for order. Until now, AFAIK this is the ONLY corvette brake upgrade available for the stock rears on our cars.

For those of you who don't know Tobin or Kore3, they rock. I did an entire Z51 brakes setup for my '81 with his kits and expertise and I couldn't be happier. |
You make me want to do the C6 Z51 for the 72 so bad....

Bonzo's right about the wheels, though. The bare minimum for Z51 brakes is 17" wheels (and that's with some minor grinding to the front caliper). They do make 17" rally's so you can keep the car's look but that's gonna add to the cost obviously. |
Ed's been making a killin on that stuff forever now!! I remember when he FIRST was doing the brake hub thing on TGO. He brought them down to the TGO Nats.

The Kore3 kits come with all of the hoses, hardware and adapters. My rear end builder was actually impressed with the completeness of the kit and the fact that everything actually fit together. No mismatched SAE and metric threads, no banjo fittings with the wrong bends etc. Here's the link: http://www.kore3.com/proddetail.php?prod=10107 The rotors, calipers etc. is all extra but the base kit IS the install kit. As for the wheels, depending on your tastes it can be expensive or not. Tommy's (67lemanster) steelies setup with some good Kumho ECSTAs was like $800. My wheels were $415 and my tires were $650 so that's an extra $1065 for a total of about $2300 for brakes, wheels and tires. |
Good link, I didn't find that. I wouldn't buy that; those with manual transmissions need an ebrake - which adds more.
Ugh, steel wheels. You need the extra brakes to stop them. :lol: You can't go by Tommy, he ain't normal. Plus you had to buy spacers, right? - $300. You need an adj. prop valve. Which is cheap. Every car is different, and if I am dumping $2500 into it, $40 for adjustibility is a fly speck. It ain't cheap!!! Just cheaper then equivalent aftermarket!! |

Kore3 does make an e-brake kit (the link from my first post). Yes, I have spacers but that's because I wanted corvette wheels. Even factoring in the spacers, the set of wheels ran me about $700 which is still chump change for aluminum wheels. Also, I'm not against a prop valve. If I need one I will definitely pick one up, just wanted to test the stock split on the master first. And finally, who said anything about cheap:?: Cheap would be the 1LE setup and a junkyard WS6 rear. It's LESS expensive than the big name kits only because it uses stock parts that are cheaper than aftermarket but it's still pricy and not for everyone. |

Figure 1300k for the brakes...its really not THAT bad. thats large 13+inch brakes in front, large 12.5 brakes in rear.
As for the wheels, they were going to be an addition later on down the line. |
