"CarCapsule"... opinions? experience?
Ok, Since in August I will be going off to the Army, I want to find a safe and reliable way to store my SS. It already will be garage kept like it currently is, but i want more. I thought about just a ready good indoor car cover, but i'm also paranoid about stuff knocking into the car, ie. my dad. I also dont want to deal with insects and similar.
A while back i first saw a car capsule, but always thought it was kinda overkill. However, now im considering it. For the price and what it provides, it seems to be a very good idea and meets everythign im looking for. If you have no idea what im taking about, check out www.carcapsule.com . I have enough room to fit it so thats good. And at only $379, the peice of mind itll provide me is worth it. Does anyone here happen to have one and can give me their opinion? BTW, i'll have 3 cars in my main garage in storage(2 in the other), but only my SS deserves this much care since i have so much time and money into it, not to mention all the blood sweat and tears. |
I say doooo eeett!!! I'm think ing I might do the same for the T/A b4 I leave.
|
wrap it in shrinkwrap
|
do it, i kno of a couple ppl who have it and after the winter, there aint a single mark or dust spec on it
|
im pretty sure i'll get it. Also after doing some light cleaning in my garage, its shocking how much more room there seems to be. Next week i gotta get a dumpster to throw out some trash and clean out my backyard storage area.. 3rd gen doors FTD(for the dump) lol
|
i have heard good things about them. only issue that i know has come up is that some people had the fans go bad after extended(1yr+) of straight use.
you woudl also still have to do all the regular, smart, long term car storage stuff like backing the valves off, pulling the battery, putting stabilizer in the gas, putting it up on jack stands.........you get the idea. |
looks like a good way to keep moisture out too. dont forget to get a product from home-depot called damp-rid. its a moisture absorbant that fits in your cupholder. it prevents your car from smelling mildewy. its an added insurance

Seems like a good idea. Will one of those fit in a standard size garage?
|
I have my 25th T/A under a cover and in a CarJacket (Same thing, it just dosent inflate, its just a giant car sized sleeping bag) and have been very happy with it. I just change the dessicant every few months.

This is the size im probably gonna get... 18'x76"x68". itll give me adequte protection and the most room around the car. i dont see why it wouldnt fit a standard garage. In my case, my garage is big enough so its not a concern.(3 cars will be in it, plus engines, parts, and tools) http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5...sule_Cover.jpg Heres my one garage, dont mind the mess, lol, parts are everywhere now that im going through stuff itll be clean soon... http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5...SS/garage2.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5...SS/garage1.jpg |
Yeah, that looks like it would definitely fit. For the price, I say go for it. There's also another kind I heard of called Air Chamber, if you want to check it out.

edit I need something in out doors.. |
the car capsule has an outdoor version too
|
you don't need, or really want anything that absorbs the excess moisture in the air with something liek this. the air passing through it is evaporative(sp?) so there is is actually less overall humidity in the bubble than in the ambient air outside of it.

Hey, I had those blue doors for a couple years! Fuggin smash..... |
when i read SS im like, SS sedan, sounds like a decent replacement for the V. but i havent heard bad things about those car capsules.
|
I actually did buy one back then, and yea, this is a very old thread Jersey Mike brought back lol.
I did try to buy my SS back, kid won't part with it though. The car capsule is awesome. Right now though its rolled up in a ball somewhere in my garage, which is even messier now. Eventually I'll pull it out for my GTA. These pictures are from right before I went to basic training in August 2007. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5...SS/bubble2.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5...SS/bubble3.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5...SS/bubble4.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5...SS/bubble1.jpg |
opti won't get wet!

Paul,
What was the nature of your use? Off-season storage only, or year-round protection? I ask because of the fan life. One review on Amazon stated that the fan died after 10 total months of use (a few fall/winters), whereas another said he's been using it for 7 years without problem. The manufacturer's website claims 3-5 year life span on the $60 fan. Because I'm currently renting, I intend to use this year-round... However, this may all be a moot point if I can't fit in the garage; I have 17.5' of room from Door Sensor to a wall-mounted shelving unit. I'll have to inquire about removing & relocating it, in order to make this 18' bubble fit  Glad I measured before clicking Pay! |
