Who knows C5's?

So I'm looking for a new car. What do you guys think? Any input? Anything I should pay particular attention to? I can't find any good solid info.

Mileage: 66,850
Body Style: Coupe
Exterior Color: Red
Interior Color: Black
VIN: 1G1YY22G4W5124701

Features: A/C: Rear, Cruise Control, Power Locks, Power Steering, A/C: Front, Remote Keyless Entry, Bucket Seats, Leather Interior, Memory Seats, Power Seats, Airbag: Driver, Airbag: Passenger, Alarm, Anti-Lock Brakes, Fog Lights, CD Changer, CD Player, Premium Sound, Power Windows, Rear Window Defroster, Tinted Glass, Alloy Wheels, Sunroof/Moonroof
Selling Points: Car is in Excellent Like New Condition. Very well taken care of. I have had this car for almost two years and have never experienced any problems with it. Very low maintenance needed on such a beautiful car. I am selling this car as I am moving out of the state and need a more practical vehicle for commuting back and forth to family. This corvette is honestly too good to be true, I looked around and saw 30 corvettes before buying this one at the time. It was in the best condition I've ever seen for a '98. Bring your mechanic along, there is nothing to hide here.
Condition: Extremely clean inside and out. Paint is still very smooth and slick. Wheels are Premium Z06 style and are in top notch condition. The only modification is a Short Throw Shifter which allows faster gear shifts. Other than that, engine and transmission are stock and in excellent condition. Very well maintained leather interior and tints on the side windows. The Glass Roof is one of the best features of the car. Call me anytime to schedule an appointment to see the car.

I already have my 18" Z06 wheels with tires I could put on, as well as a used Vararam intake & dual cut-outs.

Looks like a nice car. I wouldn't pay more than $22-24K for it because of the mileage. I talked to a dealer friend of mine and my 2004 Commemorative fully loaded with 36K miles is only worth $26K just to give you something to go by.

98tadriver 06-05-2007 10:06 PM

Well, i dunno if it pertains to the 98 C5's but 98 LS1 rod bolts were known to stretch and then the motor goes boom! mine blew up a month after i bought it, not knowing of those problems. then eric's blew up too (grandmastercow)

Mike 06-05-2007 10:08 PM

97-98 vettes had the same ls1's as 98 f-bodys, meaning the crap heads with perimiter bolt valve covers and the crap rod bolts

early C5's should be around $20k with those miles. check out ebay and research wat there going for

Yeah no kidding.

To the original poster check out corvetteforum.net and see what the going prices are. I wouldn't pay over $19K for it. Regardless of how nice it is it's still a 98.

Don't listen to the naysayer's about the 98's. I've seen more 00+ blow up than 98's. The only real issue is the PCM(different oddball year) but it has the bigger injectors(not by much). I'm happy with my 98 though I REALLY wish it had the HUD(though it can be retrofitted but it's cost $$$$).

$25K is a far cry for what he can get that 'vette for.

ar0ck 06-05-2007 11:03 PM

KBB says:
Excellent $18,365
Good $17,280
Fair $15,935

Edmunds says: $15,288

Now its time to hear what insurance has to say. If I sold the Camaro for the right amount that would make a nice down payment.

Frosty 06-06-2007 06:09 AM

My insurance stayed exactly the same.

LS1Hawk 06-06-2007 06:32 AM

If you pick up this month's issue of Road & Track, they did a 3-4 page article on the C5s and what to know and look for if you plan on buying one. I would say just stay away from the '97 models, they had the most recalls.

CJDZ24_Z28 06-06-2007 07:42 AM

I have also seen 02-03 Z06's for $24-$28

There was 1 awhile back on the LS1tech classifieds

Insurance says $600 a year with my S10 as the daily driver. :D
