charcoal canister

it is shot, i have no emmisions left on the car, can i just cap off the inlet on the TB and cap off the vent line and be done? for the 88...

Tank has to be vented somehow.

maroman88 07-07-2007 12:57 AM

theres another vent right next to the tank, it comes out with the rest of the lines and has a little thing on it

Thats a over pressure valve in case the canister gets clogged and the fumes cant vent to it. Ocne the fumes build up to a certain pressure that will let the tank vent, I beleive it can act as a rollover valve as well. You still need to vent the tank, so you could get a vent gas cap or just leave the canister. I would just leave it in. It does not hurt performance.

can i just leave the went line uncapped then

camaro2you 07-07-2007 09:32 AM

What i did was get a vented cap, and put one of those vacum line plugs on the line and poked a small hole in it, well atleast when i still had the line in the car lol.

You can if you like gas fumes. A freind had a car like that and during the hot summers months the car would smell horrible. During the winter it wasnt so bad.

maroman88 07-07-2007 11:09 AM

mine smells horrible all the time...prob cuz the filter in the canister is shot lol

NightRydaSS 07-07-2007 09:29 PM

what the crap is it used for anyways?

Fast92RS 07-07-2007 09:48 PM

You mean whats the carcoal canister used for? It allows the gas tank to vent its fumes and store those fumes until the engine is a part throttle cruise and burns the vapors off. Instead of just venting the tank to the air.

i ahve honestly never heard of that before; do all cars have them?

BonzoHansen 07-07-2007 10:16 PM

Yes, or something that performs the same function. It is for EPA regs. Plus it keeps the garage from stinking up

all production cars have them in some form from whenever they mandated the rule created by the EPA. I think in the early 70's.
