Sad day in Yankeeland: Phil Rizzuto passes away Philip Francis Rizzuto (born Fiero Francis Rizzuto September 25, 1917 – August 14, 2007) was a former Major League Baseball player and radio/television sports announcer, known both for his skills as a player and his popular but idiosyncratic style as a broadcaster. Nicknamed "The Scooter," Rizzuto, at the time of his death, was the oldest living member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 1994 by a Veterans Committee vote All-Star (AL): 1942, 1950-1953 American League Most Valuable Player: 1950 Babe Ruth Award: 1951 It is a sad day for old time Yankee fans. I loved listening to him call games. Talk about canollis, his wife Cora, Italian food, etc. He brought great color to the game. And a very pleasant man to meet in person. Holy cow. |

"HOLY COW! IT'S A HOMA!" Dayum, some of the best days of my life were spent watching the Yankees on channel 11 with Scooter, Bill White, and Frank Messer calling the action. I miss those days, and I'm gonna miss Phil. :( |
