anyone know saturns?

k so...pretty sure my saturn is burning coolant. every 800ish miles i have to put in a bit, and if i hammer on it, i can see a tiny bit of smoke...but only at night when headlights are behind me, during the day you cant see it. doesnt smell like antifreeze under the hood or in the exhaust (sweet smell) so im at a loss...no coolant in the oil, no oil in the coolant, im thinking intake gasket maybe? i know nothing about these motors. its a 95 SC2, DOHC 1.9L I4.

I know head gaskets are a common problem on those....

Savage_Messiah 09-07-2007 01:09 PM

check the muffler bearings

NJSPEEDER 09-07-2007 11:00 PM

tim is right, head gaskets are the big problem with those engines. dump some bars leaks in it and hope for the best.

GP99GT 09-08-2007 08:44 AM

yeah, i was gonna go pick up some Bars today. i can borrow a compression tester so ill try that too, see if one cyl is abnormally low...i really hope it isnt the head gasket, otherwise im selling it

yeah i agree, head gaskets suck on those motors. the bottom end isnt very strong either but a good every day car.

damn i gotta start looking at the dates on these threads lol

GP99GT 09-21-2007 05:21 AM

well i havent had to add coolant since i put that stuff in...and that included a trip to wildwood and back

Predator86 09-21-2007 10:32 AM

perhaps your the exception that proves the rule.....that stuff never worked for any car me or my family had..

this includes stop leak for:

radiator
oil
power steering
and i think the transmission

all of these were on our old windstar

ford=leaky

bobb1589 09-21-2007 12:18 PM

it depends how bad the problem is... its not a permanent fix because my sister had the same car with the same engine and they did it once... it will happen again... just watch it and just do it again
