Gymnastics Event

One of my weekend jobs is a Freelance photographer for a small company called Picture That Picture & Video. We cover all types of sporting events and this was my first job with the company. I covered the gymnastic floor as well as candid shots. This was also my first time shooting people in action in a low light situation. It was for a New Jersey Championship event for ages 5-9 and all levels of skill out in Flemington NJ.

***THIS THREAD IS TO SHOWCASE MY PHOTOGRAPHY SKILL. IF IT BY ANY MEANS GETS DERAILED & GOES HORRIBLY SOUTH IT WILL BE DELETED***

I was using my Canon Rebel XT @ 1600/250/2.8 with a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L lens. I took about 1000+ pictures but they are on my bosses memory cards & these were my first attempts on my own memory card in RAW. Questions & comments are appreciated! Hope you enjoy!

good pictures. it seems like it would be a lot more difficult to photograph a moving target, but you seemed to pull it off pretty well. nicely done.

what exactly is RAW format?
my camera has it but i'm not sure what the purpose is

From Wiki:

A raw image file (sometimes written RAW image file ) contains minimally processed data from the image sensor of a digital camera or image scanner. Raw files are so named because they are not yet processed and ready to be used with a bitmap graphics editor or printed. Its the highest resolution & quality you can take with your camera but requires post editing.

Good centering. You were able to put the action in context with the event each person was on. Awesome.

The girl on the vault has the typical blur during motion - isn't there a "shutter speed" or whatever they call it now, that is fast enough to filter that stuff out? Or is that part of the post editing?

Good hi-def shots.

No names or locations are shared, and the pictures are being posted for critique of his skill.

I can understand the concern though.

The whole reason for the disclaimer is because some people clearly can't handle themselves about the topic and I knew it would eventually be a problem for people who are immature and have to much time on their hands.

They are sold online through the company I work for and these are my images to be used for a portfolio & example work. Its totally legal.

why do i get the impression that a 3-letter name was running through your head when you posted that warning?
