What do you feel is more important

When it comes to choosing a Captain and assistant for a team?

Anti_Rice_Guy 11-20-2007 08:07 PM

Team work, leadership skills so the 2nd one...Personal skills doesn't have much to do with being a captain IMO

Frosty 11-20-2007 08:08 PM

Option 2, no doubt

GP99GT 11-20-2007 08:28 PM

beer is important

You have to possess some skill. Otherwise you are a cheerleader. You don't have to be the top line center, but you can't be the fourth line guy either. Often, the best captains aren't the most skilled guys, but they do have game.

I think one of the best captain's currently playing hockey is Rod Brind'Amour. He won't win the Hart trophy, but the guy brings it every game. Flyers shoulda never let him go.

:rofl::rofl: my thoughts exactly
be more like jaromir jagr then you be captain!

WayFast84 11-21-2007 11:54 AM

This poll has nothing to do with me being captain or Assistant. More of how the average person thinks about the candidates on who will be picked for The big C and A.

As for me not being captain. I wouldn't cry even if I wasn't picked. I don't need a Letter on my jersey to be a leader..

Squirrel 11-21-2007 12:11 PM

C - The good guy thats there to hold hands
A - the ******* who talks **** the entire game and gets the points, then at the after party nails high school girls...

lol you hit the nail on the head about the last years team leaders

alamantia 11-21-2007 02:25 PM

Jager dont deserve to be captian because he wont stick up for his team mates.

If you have a guy on your team who is willing to block shots, passes before shoots, goes into the corners when a defender is looming over him, if he is willing to fight, if he offers suggestions at proper times rather than criticizes people for dumb plays. He must have an understanding and passion for the game, in otherwords first on and last off teh ice at practice, he must be able to run a practice and he has to be a captian on the ice as well as on teh loccer room

Coming from a former player, all the skill in the world means squat if the team hates and despises their captain. If you are good at leading and motivating your team you could be one of the worst players but you would make a better captain the best player on the team.

shane27 11-21-2007 04:58 PM

let us not forget though...skill plays a major part in being a captain, considering the fact that your supposed to lead by example. backup your mouth with your stick and start getting some rubber to the back of the net

alamantia 11-21-2007 05:21 PM

Wendel Clark = Captian

I hate to be pessimistic by in the real world you do need some sort of designation on you to be in charge, otherwise your just getting in the way.

Anyway I would like see someone who can keep up moral and push people on rather than someone who just has a lot of talent in charge.

NJSPEEDER 11-22-2007 03:42 PM

i don't think i have ever been on a sports team where the captain was the best athlete on the team. it was always the person with the best work ethic and the loudest mouth when it was time for others to push themselves.

+1...but the captain should still be a starter whos top 3, and plays the entire game, and bitches the least

DaSkinnyGuy 11-25-2007 10:02 PM

I had to be different and be the 1st one to choose option #1

NumberTwo 11-25-2007 10:05 PM

Skill. A good Captain can teach his skill which got him to where he is in the first place. The rest falls into place.

keith2717 11-25-2007 10:13 PM

Your only as strong as your weakest link!

slasherbarb 11-26-2007 11:30 PM

Scott Stevens was a perfect example as a guy you would have as a Captain. He never was a scoring machine, but him teammates respected him, his opponents feared him, and he gave 110% every shift. And he could always change the tempo of the game with one hit...

Thats basically how I'm trying to be this season.

My team mates fear my in the gauntlet when I'm going through and hitting them. But I still need to work on stepping up to the body more.

Roller hockey=playing the puck
Ice hockey=Playing the body

I'm still having trouble adjusting.

I'm really anxious to find out who the new captain for the devils is gonna be

GP99GT 11-27-2007 07:55 PM

devils captain should definitley not be elias ever again...parise is their best player IMO but i dont know how good of a leader he is

idk they need stevens back lol

i say gionta should be captain...definitley not zubrus
