Bogus car terms

I was watching TV this AM and some guy was talking about how his car had "steel" heads on it.

I tried to figure out what kind of heads he meant, but then my brain started bleeding out my ears. I figure he meant iron, since even though it is very possible to cast steel it doesn't have the dampening characteristics of iron or aluminum and that would probably mean bad ju ju during combustion. I don't know of any company that makes heads out of steel.

What other stuff have you guys heard (besides the 3/4 race cam, we've all heard that one).

I had somebody call it the "Wanker" rotary engine once. I asked if that was the British engine and he just stared blankly at me.

The classic 3/4 race cam. Even my lawnmower has one...

Met a guy once who had a Chevelle with a "396 Hemi" in it. A "Chevrolet Hemi." So, I told him I had dual four barrels, a six pack, and fuel injection, all on the same engine! :mrgreen:

wanker is a bad word in england. i assume thats where your joke comes from right? cause if so thats awesome!

bubba428 11-22-2007 09:55 PM

its called a Wankel engine but to mock it they are commonly referred to as wanker engines because the drivers are typically wankers themselves.

Ricer=Wanker

Proof : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanker

if i remember correctly oldsmobile had a W-43 hemi but i dont know if that ever made production either

johnjzjz 11-23-2007 06:07 PM

Any Chevy book i have read used the term semi hemi for BBC early type motors - meaning - the closed combustion chamber - slang and different places have different meanings for ebverything - jz

Blacdout96 11-23-2007 08:28 PM

semi hemi means they half assed the research to make it a full hemi. hemi is hemi, if it isnt a hemisperical chamber its not hemi, and the preffered hemi style is spark plug in the center for the best even displacement of the combustion, and valves on both sides for the best cross flow of in and out. Now there are chevy blocks that are hemi today...but they're only built for top fuel dragsters, I forget the displacement ofthem, but i read a few years back they made them in the 70's, and now they brought them back. anyone got more insight on that info.

SteveR 11-23-2007 09:14 PM

BAE makes hemi heads for chevy blocks :lol:
