Which GPS unit to buy?

Looking to get my parents one for christmas? Any advice pro's or con's on units you have. I have used a Garmin 340 and that was pretty easy and straight forward, but looking for more input. Trying to stay in the 300-400range....not looking for subscription based units or jpg viewers/mp3 players. Just good solid easy to use GPS....what do you got?

thanks
Chris

i have a Tom Tom and couldnt be happier. From what i've seen though, they're all pretty easy to use and do the same thing. The thing I like about tomtom is its size. Soem of the ones i've seen are like mini tv's, this one is slim enough i can put it anywhere when im not using it so it doesnt get stolen.

GARMIN 660

http://www.trusteddealer.com/product...oduct_id=12080

They sell for close to 800 in Best buy.

I had a tom tom and it was AWFUL. Granted I had the first model to come out but the touch screen crapped out on me after just a little over a year and the company wouldn't repair it because a new model was out and they offered me $30 bucks off the price or something since I was a repeat customer. If you want my old one it's somewhere along Rt 287 since I threw it out the window after it kept F-ing up.

Stay away from TOM TOM just for the fact they have poor customer service.

my parents have the garmin nuvi 350, it works awesome. We've used it to go to NH and I've used it numerous times going out to LI to see JM and to pick up my SS hood.

I just have a Mio c220...I think circuit city has them on sale for $99 if im not mistaken, or at least did recently, Comes with a 1gb SD card but its stuffed full of the maps with 0 room left basically, seems to be a solid unit thus far though for me, no mp3 but pretty easy to navigate through so anyone can use it.

ive got a tom tom one ( One is model name lol)... under 300 bucks and uses shared map software... also a brand called MIO which a few peeps i know have that uses tom tom maps... little cheaper... no reason to spend more than 300 bucks on one

BonzoHansen 11-27-2007 08:30 PM

I don't know squat about them, but there was a big thread at NastyZ about them http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showth...&highlight=gps

Maybe that might help.

I have a Mio C310x, and I love it. Great product at a great price. NJSPEEDER and SlasherBarb both have the same one as well. and Foff667 bought his C220 after checking out my C310.

I would recommend going with either the Mio C220 or 320

After doing a lot of research, I jumped on that deal. Unfortunately, I have to wait until christmas to play with it. I liked it because it has a 4.3 inch screen and does text to speech for street names.

good call... i bought and returned the mio, magellan, and garmin. the garmin was hands down the best. the magellan was retarded and the mio navigated like a foreigner (didn't know one-ways or little stuff like that). but the mio has much better maps, voices, and the system itself is far more stable and doesn't lag like the garmin. but teh garmin has much more points of interest and the navigating logarithm is FAR better, which is why i bought a navi. so garmin it was for me

What model Mio did you have, and what maps were loaded on it?

c220. not sure about the maps though, whatever came in the slot.

Tru2Chevy 11-28-2007 06:08 PM

Ok, the C220 should have either 2006.10 or 2007.1 maps. I haven't used that one, but Bill seems to like it.

I have had a few routing issues with my C310, but 95% of them were because I didn't look over the route before I took off driving.

foff667 11-28-2007 08:10 PM

Yeah my c220 has had no issues whatsoever since day 1, no one way streets & has tons of points of interest in my area and has been nothing but a godsend when trying to go places.
