I survived!

My first day of substitute teaching! It was actually A LOT of fun. I covered for an old gym teacher @ my old Elementary school too so it was great.

I was dealing with 4th & 5th graders and we pretty much played dodge ball and I shot a few hoops during my breaks. Btw if you've seen kindergarden cop with Arnold, it is exactly like the movie! I kept relating lines & scenes from the movie to things I saw and it was pretty dam funny.

I can't wait to do it again, hopefully at the same school so I can hit on the other young and ver attractive teachers.

Awesome deal! How's the pay for subs in your district? I think where I work it's $70/day.

Haha funny how I just asked you about that like 2 days ago. Congrats! Gym teachers have the easiest/most fun jobs IMO. Play dodgeball all day long. Whew tough work.

Grats on the survival! I remember my Wifes first day when she came home from teaching English. It was like she had came in first in a marathon.

band77one 12-04-2007 11:45 PM

is your name actually john kimble?

Untamed 12-05-2007 07:45 AM

Congrats Alex. The younger ages can be fun because they usually want to be there and the stuff you do is easier.

Don't do High School. If nothing else, many of the kids will be much bigger than you....

jbird99 12-05-2007 09:36 AM

hahaha congrats man!

I thought dodgeball was illegal to play in gym class in the state of NJ.

Its $80 a day in my town. It works out to almost $10.50/hr which is more then I make at the Liquor store. I did a hell of a lot less work too. I had 1 Prep, a canceled class, lunch duty & a lunch break. It was awesome.

I thought the same thing too, because about when Dodgeball came out while I was in High School they wouldn't let us play it anymore. But the 4th & 5th graders said they were allowed to play it. We played two variations, one was Castle, where you build a thing with hula-hoops, and you have to use these soft foam balls to knock them over. Th3 5th graders were getting intense and it just turned into "Whale the other person in the head". Then after I had 4 kids go to the nurse we switched it to "Snow-ball fight" where we use these softer yarn balls and the object of the game was obviously the basic idea was of dodgeball.

Same here, the controversy about the game started after our class.

SteveR 12-06-2007 05:04 PM

ban dodgeball?!!! that was one of the most fun parts of going to school

GP99GT 12-06-2007 07:08 PM

yeah in about 5th or 6th grade we werent allowed to play dodgeball anymore...and that was a long time ago

Anti_Rice_Guy 12-06-2007 07:25 PM

They said we weren't allowed to, but we did anyway, it was the activities we could sign up for in high school. They said they were gonna get rid of floor hockey too, but that stayed as well. And I graduated high school this past summer (07).

i remember floor hockey.. we played outside in the tennis courts but they made us stop when people were getting checked into the fencing, taking slapshots, and kids were leaving with bruised shins
