Well it was only a matter of time...

Damn...on the way to the south meet today I got on the 86 from a roll. It wound up to about 5500 in second and just as I go to let of SLAMMED 3rd gear...well, what else is new another automatic trans has fallen to my mighty right foot. she grinds going into 3rd, fan-freakin-tastic. I'm gonna have to baby it till friday so I can do a trans flush, change the filter, and put some lucas in it. If that doesn't solve it...T-5 swap

ar0ck 12-08-2007 04:04 PM

Are you manually shifting an auto?

bubba428 12-08-2007 04:08 PM

nope, I swapped in a 3.42 and the trans is all wacky now. shifts entirely too high, I have to let off so it don't pin the tach

keith2717 12-08-2007 04:11 PM

You got the best LUCK

WayFast84 12-08-2007 04:12 PM

Nah your just bubba. Stop and think. Did you mess with the TV cables?

bubba428 12-08-2007 04:15 PM

Hey theres a possibility I might not have completely f'd it up. I'm gonna do the fluid/filter change(+Lucas) cause its in need of it already, and if that don't fix it the T-5. not a big deal really.

I never said that was gonna be easy. There's a lot of thing that had to be modified to work. I've done trans swaps before, but a conversion would be a new adventure. Besides its not a big deal to me that the trans went...doing a conversion is going to be a major PITA

NumberTwo 12-08-2007 06:43 PM

My header just melted a trans line on my Z today. The underside of my white hood is all pink and my motor is very shiny.

On a side note, Id go to Advance or someplace and buy Lubegard instead of Lucas. Much better product IMO.

bubba428 12-08-2007 07:22 PM

I've never had a problem with Lucas products and they've all worked quite well for me. sucks about that line though. I'm be under the car again soon enough.

If the trans is making a grinding noise you broke it and there is no snake oil in existance to fix it..

I know that, I'm just trying to put off the inevitable. you do trans work? I don't need nothing special cause I have a conversion in the plans for this

JSPERFORMANCE 12-09-2007 02:58 PM

The inevetable is here no cheap fixes for what you did. The planetaries probably broke and sent metal throughout the whole trans. You will need a complete overhaul and the converter will need to be replaced or rebuilt as well. Also the cooler will need to be flushed or replaced....

bubba428 12-09-2007 03:05 PM

well I meant nothing special by a full rebuild with just stock parts. nothing performance

camaro2you 12-09-2007 05:17 PM

your better off going to the junkyard and getting something decent if your just gonna replace it again later down the road, thats a waste...ask me how i know....

bubba428 12-09-2007 05:38 PM

thats what i think I'm doing Friday. Either that or ditching the auto all together

WayFast84 12-09-2007 06:39 PM

hello i have a rebuilt 700r4 and a stock converter Ill give to you for cheap!!! Ill only sell it if you promise to fix your rear brakes before you start driving on the street though. PM me if your interested.

bubba428 12-09-2007 07:02 PM

I'm getting a conversion cheap...no offense but if I was interested in another auto...i'd have one in already

WayFast84 12-09-2007 07:08 PM

then why are you talking about keeping the auto 3 posts up??

alamantia 12-09-2007 07:09 PM

would an adjustment on the TV cable keep it from shifting that high?

bubba428 12-09-2007 07:10 PM

it would...but i never touched it
