Thunderbolt Raceway will open soon.

After years of having different groups try and fail to get anything going in New Jersey, I have to admit I was skeptical of this ever getting off the ground. Well, they did it.

I am going to be looking into working out a club meet at the facility, not a rental or sessions, more of a tour and maybe some BBQ or something.

I will also be looking into group purchase ticket prices for the spectator events, including the Rolex Series event at the end of August. :)

Wondering who may be interested in having a club event on the track in 2009? We have the membership base and contacts to get cars out to the facility, just a matter of confirming the interest and finding out what people are willing to pay for some sessions on the road course.

count me in.....if the cost is comparable to a track day at pocono, that'd be good.

NJSPEEDER 01-13-2008 09:50 PM

what does pocono charge normally?
i am sure we coudl get a crowd out there after seeing the success and good time that the midwest crew has going to road america every year.
i will talk to thunderbolt about it and see what they are looking to do.

Blacdout96 01-13-2008 10:04 PM

DUDE!!! ive been drooling ovr this place like a 5 year old looking at his gifts on christmas eve. Id love to take the maro out there, but I want a racecar to take out there, even for test n tune. this place got help from my main man, Mr. Carroll Shelby himself!!! I want to see if I can get a job there, Id rather work there the rest of my life on minimun wage then at Viking for another year!! money and benefits are god, but what I have to go thru is not worth it. they already have such venues as grand am rolex, and vintage races goign on there, and supposidly from an anonymous tip, a shelby reunion/races held there like what porsche has with rennsport!!!

Oh and il pay 100 bucks for sessions on the track, i dont care, I want out there

NJSPEEDER 01-13-2008 10:11 PM

as a starter for this year, i am going to find out about group ticket prices for the grand am/rolex weekend. i know 100% without a doubt that i will be there for that and whatever else i cna find an excuse to attend. :)

Blacdout96 01-13-2008 10:39 PM

you bet your bottom dollar i wil be ther too, I wonder f it will be a lap race, or a timed race, god I hope #2 lol

Here's a link to PDA's site and what they charge for the various tracks (Limerock, Pocono etc.)

ill go to both a race and a meet/rental. regardless of price.

NJSPEEDER 01-14-2008 08:24 PM

ok gang, since this has received such a strong response i will be calling the facility and Grand Am/Rolex to find out about group ticket rates. i am planning to attend the whole weekend(you can't beat it for the price) and will try to get what ever the top tier of icket is for myself.
i will get the info together and post up ASAP so we can get it together.

98tadriver 01-15-2008 07:55 AM

ah yes, the racetrack. Hopefully i should be getting on the construction job soon. A good friend of mine put the good word in for me. They will be needing more guys on the job. and from what i heard, their deadline is supposed to be sometime in july to get some stuff done.

The first event on the calendar is July 7, so I'm sure it will be a busy spring there as far as construction is concerned.

At this point, they don't have any listings for "open track days" where anyone can just come in off the street and race.

- Justin

EchoMirage 01-21-2008 04:58 PM

they had better have some sort of track days. i really didnt want this to turn into another yuppie carclub like alpine is.

NJSPEEDER 01-21-2008 05:38 PM

fewer and fewer facilities are putting on the old style open track days. it is a big insurance risk, one that they are better served to pass off on clubs and driving schools. as soon as they start announcing ticket prices i will get that info up, i will be heading there for as many SCCA and other major events as possible

our key is going to be getting out there and supporting the new facility this summer and fall and i will see what i can do about getting us a track day(hopefully weekend) for sometime in '09. i will just warn you all now that this will not be cheap to put on. i can't predict a price, but considering the costs of other racing facilities for a day of use much less a weekend, i can be this will be several hundred per person. that being said, i'm in no matter what :)
