Its the M-249 aka the "saw" (squad automatic weapon). Its the armys light-duty machine gun. It is a belt-fed, 5.56mm, fully automatic weapon. I will be getting qualified with it and this is what i will be carrying in Iraq. sick huh? haha

wretched73 01-14-2008 04:38 PM

Thats insane, god bless you

Tru2Chevy 01-14-2008 04:39 PM

Gotta love the saw.....used to be my weapon of choice playing Ghost Recon in my college days.

Unlike the one we trained on in basic, this one has the short barrel and collaspable butt-stock. It also has the rail system for attaching all type of sights. Carrying this around is just complete sex.. haha

ar0ck 01-14-2008 04:53 PM

Congrats, thats a nice one!

bubba428 01-14-2008 06:45 PM

Really nice piece for the "SHOOT FIRST AND ASK QUESTIONS LATER", if there's anything left to ask!!!!! :bang:

Rafterman 01-14-2008 08:38 PM

whats the big difference between that and the M60E3?

Mike 01-14-2008 08:42 PM

the 240 series is replacing the m60's the m60e3 has been in use since 1955

Rafterman 01-14-2008 08:47 PM

oh i thought it was the other way around, still, sub-machine gun FTW

V 01-14-2008 09:21 PM

yes the 240 replaced the M60. the M-240B is now the armys medium duty machine gun. it shoots 7.62x39R rounds.
then the heavy duty machine gun is the M2... the .50 cal ;-)

Ian 01-14-2008 10:03 PM

I'd rather have an M4, but thats just me.

slasherbarb 01-14-2008 10:24 PM

definitely one sick gun!!!

ar0ck 01-14-2008 10:41 PM

M249 SAW The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherTucker in the room, accept no substitutes.

wretched73 01-14-2008 11:36 PM

jin1481 01-15-2008 11:37 AM

my m16 got pretty heavy after living with the damn thing for 6 months as a Marine Corps computer geek, i don't envy you having to lug that thing around. Otherwise though, damn sexy piece of hardware.

Kojak 01-15-2008 01:28 PM

procamaroz28 01-15-2008 03:37 PM

that vid is sick!!!!

r0nin89 01-15-2008 11:16 PM

Yeah I was gonna say why does it have a CAR stock on it. They invented unique stock for that gun to be more efficient with how heavy it is or something like that.

I know cause I have a traditional SAW stock on my paintball gun :D

PS: That makes me an expert

PSPS: Sweet gun.

jin1481 01-16-2008 09:26 AM

only in the army is all i have to say about dual wielding saws

Untamed 01-16-2008 11:12 AM

Now that everyone is ready to have sex with it, lemme step on all the nutsacks in the room.

The M-249 draws more enemy fire than any other weapon out there. Duck... a lot, Paul.

The M-249 will feel like it weighs a ton after the first 2 hours of a patrol. When you complete your first 72 hours of street duty you'll want to trade it in for an M-16 or M-4. In basic, yer gung-ho with it. In combat, it just adds to all the weight you'll be carrying.

I hope they give you a box for the belt, because swinging belts will snag on everything.

Your A-gunner will have your extra ammo... and be on the other side of the street in a firefight when you need him. Everyone else will have all the ammo they need.

Carry 2 extra 30 round magazines, just in case.

The M-249 doesn't clean as easy as the M-16, and yer gonna be in the desert.

Ask the armorer to remove the carrying handle. Trying to go around a doorway and having that f#$@! thing catch on the doorjam will ruin your day. And put an M-60 sling on it. Bigger padding means less pain on the shoulder. You'll have your vest, but better distribution of weight is always good.

Good luck man!

V 01-16-2008 04:39 PM

yea, ive heard all about the weight and getting tired of hauling it around. the SGTs in my platoon were in afganistan until this past summer. ill learn to deal with it, but for the most part the 249 will only really be a backup weapon for the .50 cals. We drive, thats what we're being sent there to do. clearing buildings is not our job and our first sgt maintains that it will never be.
