What did it take, 20+ years for devil fans to equal ranger fans at nj/nyr games in nj games?

I hate the flyers more then the devils. Even if they made hockey boring for 5 years.

Frosty 01-23-2008 06:37 AM

I was going to post something up last night. It's f'in frustrating. IMO the Devils aren't THAT much better than the Flyers but they just can't beat this damn team. The Devils did get a couple of lucky bounces last night but still, they steamrolled the Flyers

I still find it funny that a few people on this site said the at the beginning of the year that Brodeur was washed up and that Devils were going nowhere this year. Aside from the Devils fans I was the only other person to say otherwise....I'm mad that I was right.

God I hope they don't have to face NJ in the playoffs.

Many NHL teams are envious of the Devils right now. Not so back in October, but because of what has happened since October.

Setting their current record aside, the Devils are a case study of good coaching. Brent Sutter faced some very tough challenges - almost a dozen new players, new arena, first 9 games on the road, all while introducing a new system (more offensive minded) all at the same time. Most teams, regardless of the sport, simply write off the first year of any combination of the two above, and wait for the next year. The Devils turned around what looked like a disappointing season, into a contender against any team. Well, except maybe Ottawa. And the two NY teams.... :|

NJ has a system that works - from the farm team in Albany through the Devils organization. Brodeur is the only "house hold" name on the team, with everyone else stepping up through the ranks or stepping into the hockey machine that Lamorello built. Believe in the system, not the players gained through the checkbook. Sometimes I wish the Rangers would figure that out.

We'll see where the team ends up in April. A cup team? Maybe. The Devils have had their share of problem teams - Rangers, Islanders, Lightning and Ottawa to name a few. Going to be fun to watch (as usual) through April. I'd really like to see NJ player Detroit to get a good measure of where they stand against another great team. But... they don't play each other this year.

Good luck Devils!

It is sad that the Devils won cups.... and can't throw a parade...a shame actually. Even Tampa had one lol. I just think its funny they built a new arena with their attendence in the bottom half of the league...still can't figure that one out. I've been to many games up there and the attendence was like 14,500 and there was more Flyers fans then Devils ones *shrug*. And as for people in NJ liking the Devils lol....I'd bet theres more Flyers and Rangers fans in this state than Devils fans.

And teams being envious of the devils? Their cap situation is a mess, they can't even afford to trade for a bag of pucks and a used synergy. Yea Lou knows what hes doing method wise, but cap wise their in some serious trouble. Boring hockey wins though, them the Bruins and the Wild are perfect examples of kill yourself hockey. Throw some nobodies out there to choke the neutral zone with a semi decent goalie and waa laaa winner winner.

Heres their average attendence over the last 5 years.

2003- 23rd out of 30: 14,858
2004- 24th out of 30: 14,912
2005- no season
2006- 26th out of 30: 14,230
2007- 26th out of 30: 14,176
2008- 22nd out of 30: 15,440

like i said, they have fans? ( http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/attendance?year=2008 )

Savage_Messiah 01-25-2008 03:17 AM

doubt it? hahaha yea they been getting better and the devils been gettign worse since they last played right? lol think its the other way around ;) The most talent in the league and they still cant win games.

its sad the devils have three cups, new stadium, and jerseys own only good sports team. But still cant get fans.... i dotn get it. But that leaves tickets open for me :) They have stepped up there game a lot since the "trap" back in the day, and they put plenty of pucks in the net. idk i enjoy watching them and will continue to watch them go and win the atlantic Division Champs again this year :)
