My LED taillight conversion

I got the idea from another member on thirdgen.org and decided to take a crack at it. I got custom PCB boards that I designed on a software program I got when I was in college for electrical engineering. I ordered the boards from a company I found online and got all the parts of ebay. I finished the back up, turn and tail/ brake panels. All I have to do is order the side panel boards and I'll be done. I also odered the sockets to soilder the wires into them and then just plug them into the stock tail harness but soildering the wires in is a PITA. I think I may use weather pack connectors instead of the stock tail sockets.

Jesus those are going to bright and look mighty sexy!

Someone on LS1Tech did there entire brakes like that as well. Its becoming very popular, and from my understanding, LED's draw less power then conventional bulbs.

I already have the third bake light LED I got from custom-leds.com.

They only make conversions for 1st and 2ng gen Camaro's now. It will probably be a while before they come out with 3rd and 4th gen conversions. I could probably make and sell these but it wouldn't be cheap. I would have to charge atleast 190 for set and I dont know if anyone would be willing to lay out that kind of money to do it.

Fast92RS 01-24-2008 07:39 PM

My next step is to use some night shade on the taillights or get a set of these.:

I have had a set of these for my 3rd brake lite for a couple of years now. Got them off of ebay for about $30.00. The guy can make up quite a few different letter/number combos, such as GTA/ WS6/ 305/ 350/ 383/ L98 etc. On the Camaros he can make IROC/ Bowtie Emblem etc. He can do the 1991-1992 Firebirds, and the 1987-1992 Camaro. His website is WWW.CUSTOM-LEDS.COM If you go to my FQuick Garage, and click on my pictures, you can get a good close-up of the lite.

Yeah thats were I got my third brake light as well. It would have been a lot easier if that guy made the taillights as well but oh well, I just did it my self. Im still considering selling the ones I made. I would probably have to get around 20 orders to sell them at a decent price.

Yeah but those will look like ass without tinting them. I wouldn't bother with Ebay junk. You never know how they are made, or the quality of the parts the use.

Amen, some stuff is ok on there, but 180 bucks for somethign like that, nah, theyre all red, not my kind of taste.

V 01-26-2008 05:24 PM

my whole tail section of my SS is OEM parts and quality, i'd never run ebay junk(took me 3 years to find quality clears for my front after trying all ebay ones)

Im in contact with Spaghetti Engineering Enterprises to posibly make these LED taillights and since they are right here in West Berlin, NJ maybe the members from here that are interested can send emails to them saying that you would like them to produce them.

I never had a problem wiht anyhting off of eBay. and that would be a nice side business, making LED's for 3rd gens, sounds like a good idea.

Fast92RS 02-05-2008 05:55 PM

Spaghetti Engineering said they will be producing a kit for third gen f-bodys. It will be a kit to insert into the factory tail light housings.

Fast92RS 02-05-2008 06:29 PM

They say it will be around the same price that they charge for there other kits. Im working on becoming a distributor for them.
