sick as a god damn dog

So i'm usually pretty damn good about not getting sick, but this winter has destroyed me. My father was sick earlier this week coughing all over the place and sure enough I'm f-ing sick now.

I hate being sick because now I can't work I need to be on the phone and I sound like a frog.

Can't wait to get to the doctor at 11 and have the dumb c u n tuesday tell me antibiotics won't help just to go home and rest. That's what she said last time and I got sick again. Great thanks...

Oh god, Im sick too! I missed two days of work cause of this, and I never have anything for more the 24 hrs. I had the flu AND a stomach virus from bad food at the same time.

Chloraseptic lozengers and plenty of gatorade. Soothe the throat and flush the system.

firehawk1120 01-31-2008 11:27 AM

Well just got home from the doctor and of course she says I have Flu like symptoms but didn't prescribe any antibiotics. Just told me to take motrin for the aches and fever and delsym for my cough. Do I really need to go to a doctor for that. How about some frigging antibiotics do your job.

Anti_Rice_Guy 01-31-2008 11:35 AM

how about there are no antibiotics for the flu
he was doing his job, it's amazing how many people want a pill no matter what they have

had he written you a 'script he's a really bad doctor or it was a placebo
i can get you some if you want, you'll feel better in a week :moon:

Antibiotics only work for infections, not for stuff like the cold. And if you were to take when you didn't need it, it would start to allow your system to build up a resistance to it and they wouldn't work right when you actually needed the antibiotics. I find that being outside in the winter and keeping your house at 65 degrees or less will help toughen up your system. Oh, and drink plenty of beer too!

 That happens in my house ALL THE TIME but it's because of my brothers. They get sick all the time and me and/or my parents end up with it.

Trying have MRSA staph and then getting slammed with a nasty chest cold.

I haven't been sick in years, haven't touched an antibiotic in 20yrs(since I was like 7yrs old). Now, two staph infections in 3 months(one being MRSA), the antibiotics for the MRSA has a side effect that causes colitis(NOT fun) and now the cold. '08 isn't starting off too well for me :(

 dude, that's insane. MRSA is serious business.

Frosty 02-01-2008 06:02 AM

Yeah, it wasn't/isn't fun. I have no idea how I got it. I grew up playing sports and stuff...NEVER had a staph infection yet I've had two in the last 3 months or so. Very odd.

firehawk1120 02-01-2008 07:48 AM

not that I'm doubting you, but I don't think you actually have Colitis. You may have colitis like symptoms, but I had colitis for 6 years and it wasn't due to medication. It is an anti-immune deficiency, so if you have colitis it's been in your system but just dormant. I was the same way, played sports my whole life then my senior year of college I started having issues, and it got progressively worse over the next 2 years, finally went to the doctor and they put me on ASACOL. That worked for about 2 - 3 years and then my body rejected it so I went to some other drugs like Prednisone and Remicade. After another 2 years I decided to have the surgery and have my colon removed now I'm much better.

Frosty 02-01-2008 09:00 AM

Yeah actually you're right, they're calling it pseudo-colitis right now since I'm only feeling the symptoms of it from the antbiotics. However they still want to do a colonoscopy to make sure since I haven't taken any antibiotics in well over a week. It blows.

firehawk1120 02-01-2008 09:06 AM

the colonoscopy isn't bad, just as an FYI do not let them give you the pills I think it's something with a V like viserin, they have been know to cause liver damage, do the fleet phospho soda drink, it's awful, but it's over relatively quickly and you can wash it down with water or lemonade or something clear.

If the colonoscopy comes back and they see discoloration it should be PINK, not black or brown or white spots, then you'll probably be sent to have a micro-organisism blood test. Basically that will determine at the smallest possible level if it is Chrone's or Colitis.

If you have any questions let me know I lived with it for a long time.

baddest434 02-01-2008 11:27 AM

thats actually the best advice he can give you. Take any kind of ibuprofin for aches, and delsym is completely amazing caugh medicine. I had pertussis last year (whooping caugh) and it was the most annoying thing ever. A constant caugh, not progressive, not productive, just a caugh all the time for 2-3 months. Delsym really helped me get through it.

Delsym = Dextromethorphan
take too much & you'll hallucinate

but there's a lot of risk involved.
