2002 Camaro SS option?
 
In 2002 does anyone remember how much the SS option was over the regular Z28 package?

If i remember correctly the SLP option was around $6,000.00 more

SS option i think was $3,000

for my 97 it says the base ss upgrade was 3,999. and with alll my options it came out to 6,500

I guess the SLP stuff were options you could get only if you had the SS option right?

that is correct. the only "performance" part that was automatic on the SS compared to the base Z28 was the air lid.

there was nothign special about my lid

and we paid the extra $ to have a true SS... at least i did, i wanted the biggest and baddest

Um, I may be wrong but doesn't SLP also change the exhaust on the SS as well as the Firehawk???

There were also other options like an auburn Differential but don't remember if that was SLP or GM.

As well as slight suspension upgrades???

No special lid on my SS. That was part of the 345hp package only. The SS gave you the hood, spoiler, tires/wheels, suspension, exhaust as the base package I believe. Depending on the year, you could add upgraded suspension in 96/97, floor mats, car cover, optional exhaust, optional air intake/lid. I personally don't think the cost of the option was worth it since you could add that stuff cheaper to a plain Z28. But a real SS is still cooler than a clone SS. :nod:

Just fancy trim? SS?

I'm hoping that's what RS will be, with SS and Z28 being more like their first and second gen positons.

exhaust was an add-on SLP option. My dual-dual exhaust was like 600 bucks additional. I didnt order it, but the car was a left over which fit every option i would have chosen.(minus the slp catback)

It's not the lid that was upgraded on the SS, it was the lower airbox.....the WS6/Firehawk/SS cars had the part with the opening for the "Ram Air", while the Z28 and Trans Am did not....

SS and Z28 lids and lower air boxes were exactly the same.
Only the lowers for the WS6/Firehawks had a larger opening height-wise.

It had to do with the design of the ram air. In the birds, the ram air is more efficient than the SS because the air enters the "nostrils" on the hood and goes in a straight shot into the air box. since that part of the hood is higher and gives more clearence, they raised the air box to allow it to kinda line up wiht the inlet from the nostrils.
In the SS, the ss hood, has the same clearence as the plain z28 hood up front, theres no room for a raised airbox. In the SS, the air enters the scoop and is then split and diverted to the sides and then up front when it "turns" back around and comes out a small slipt type openeng the width of the airbox opening and only and inch or so in height.

Mainly it all has to do with the hood clearence. Heck, most people i've seen who had the SLP airlid alone on z28 or SSs have rub marks where the lids already meet the hood. Thats one reason ill never buy a slp lid, i like my TSP one.
