whats the purpose of the Track bar on f-bodies?

the reason i ask is because i tried to remove it to make removing my catback easier on my 3rd gen. the bolts snapped on the driver's side... it looks like it bolts to the body on the driver side, and just comes across and bolts to the passenger side panhard bar bracket on the body. do i need this piece? the panhard bar is fine. im not autocrossing the car, and it will be driven to the track. worst comes to worst, i will just weld it up on the drivers side; if i absolutely need it. thanks in advance!

Sounds like you are talking about the panhard bar brace....and it does just what the name implies.
