Hike For Discovery - The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Dear Fellow NJFBOA Members,
On June 7th-10th, I will be hiking the Rocky Mountains for a reason that is far more important than completing a personal fitness goal. I am a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s HIKE FOR DISCOVERY program; I have pledged to train and complete the hike and to raise money for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma research and patient programs. You may or may not be aware of this, but leukemia is the #1 disease killer of children and the leading fatal malignant disease of men and women under the age of 35. Although the cause of leukemia remains unknown, recent development treatments and steady advances in research brings us closer to a cure each day. These research advances were only achieved as a result of contributions made by companies, foundations and individuals. On May 8, 2000 my grandmother, Anna Maria Pansini, passed away from lymphoma, I saw this terrible blood cancer wear my grandmother down and take her from me when I was only 11 years old. This is my chance to do something in her honor and make her proud. My goal is to raise $4,500 by June 7, 2008 I hope you can help me reach my donation goal. There are two ways to donate. You can donate by completing the donor form that I can mail to you or you can also donate online by visiting my website where you can also keep track of my progress at: http://www.active.com/donate/hfdnonj/hfdNDAlto. In doing so, you will be supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s vital mission; to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of the patients and their families. For more information on the cause you can also visit the website: www.hikefordiscovery.org If you guys have any questions or comments please feel free to e-mail me at goalkeeper1989@yahoo.com or PM me or IM me at xzwhiteghstzx. Also during the hike and while I train I will be placing the names of those who have or are suffering from these cancers on my backpack. Please feel free to let me know if there is someone who you would like me to hike for. I have every reason to believe that because of the generosity of people a cure for these blood related cancers can be found. Thank you for your support as I train and prepare myself for the hike in the Rocky’s this summer. Please pass this forward onto your family and friends. Sincerely, Nicolas D’Alto |
i applaud you for doing this, and i'll definitely donate some money in a month or so when finances aren't so tight.

For those that are thinking about donating, we will be collecting money at the February, March, April, and May meets to donate towards this cause. We are psyched that Nick is doing this for such a good cause.

OK I'll donate some at Sat's meet then.

I cannot thank you guys enough for the support. Especially the support and help that Justin and Tim are giving. I feel like this is just such a great chance to do something good and help all those that suffer, the patients and the families. Anyone who has seen someone go through cancer or gone through it themselves knows it is an experience you wouldn't wish on your worst enemies.
I'm am sending out a bunch of letters next week and would love to send out more to reach people about my cause, if you would like one sent to your house or someone you know please feel free to PM me your address or e-mail it to me at goalkeeper1989@yahoo.com Thanks again everyone! |
